Excellent welcome and allowed to check in early. Massive bedroom and bathroom, room #19. Everything clean and tidy. Grout needs refreshing in the shower and the wardrobe door wouldn't stay closed so a bit of upkeep and maintenance needed. Quite a strong smell of food/cooking too so an airing probably needed. Breakfast service was great, food just needed a bit more care in the cooking for our liking. Overall, for the price and location, I'd still give this stay full marks

My husband and I called into the Old Lodge Malton last Friday on the off chance they may availability and we were delighted when they had and even more impressed with the room. It was huge with an enormous four poster bed, huge floor to ceiling bay window with beautiful couch to sit and enjoy the spectacular view of the beautiful gardens with all the lovely bunny rabbits. We had towelling robes and the huge bathroom was completely separate to the bedroom in the entrance hallway. The decor, cleanliness and attention to detail was fabulous and all for the bargain price of £88. Gracie the receptionist was a delight and extremely helpful with suggestions of where to go. I would definitely recommend the Old Lodge.

The hotel was great and staff lovely and welcoming. We were at a wedding that day and we arrived a bit too early to check in but instead of us getting dressed in the loo ( which was our original thoughts) the lady on reception checked us in early which was really nice of her to do The location was perfect to get to and from the wedding venue. Full of character, a bit worn but it’s an old building!

This is a beautiful historic old house set in lovely grounds, within walking distance of Malton and close to quite a few attractions. When arriving we missed it as it’s not well signed and there were cones on the pavement in front on the perimeter wall, however it’s easily recognisable once you’ve seen it once. Staff we met were lovely though they seem very busy multi tasking on reception, in the bar and the dining room. Our first impressions of our feature rooms were…wow! It was a privilege to stay in such a unique place. However on closer inspection both rooms could do with a little TLC - one room had quite badly stained carpets and our room had one bulb out in the chandelier, the voiles in the window were coming off their hooks and there was a lot of dust on the top of the velvet headboard. (We did advise reception on leaving, we were only there for 2 days). Also nobody came into our room to clean/tidy, not that we’re messy people, so we came back after a day out to an unmade bed which we thought was a bit odd. That said, our beds and pillows were super comfy, the shower was efficient and the WiFi was fine too. Breakfast was great both days with a good selection of hot food, as well as help yourself cereal, pastries etc. We ate there one evening and the roast in particular was excellent, and reasonably priced. We enjoyed a few drinks in the wooden panelled bar, there was a good selection of drinks on offer, but the coffee tables looked like they could have done with a clean. Feel with a little TLC and attention to detail this could be a perfect place to stay.

Very pleasant and charming. There are a few qwerks and wear and tear items that you get with independent hotels which don't have the endless budget like Hiltons and the like but you would have to be deliberately difficult to let any of them spoil your stay. Room was comfortable and inviting. Breakfast was excellent, you can understand why it has won awards. Staff were all very pleasant. Sadly I can't remember her name but one of the waitresses makes an amazing G&T. Lovely grounds and history. Easy and pleasant place to stay when in and around Malton. I will stay again fairly regularly when we are up that way visiting friends.

Beautiful 400 yr old property … from the outside ! Unfortunately wasn’t as nice inside , very dated with lots of maintenance repairs to be addressed , bed was lumpy , pillows were lumpy , we had a feature room but it was definitely a 2 star stay for a 4/5 star price ! Won’t stay again but the receptionist was very nice

Very helpful and pleasant staff. The area was quiet and easily walkable into Mallon. My only minor gripe was an uncomfortable bed. That aside we had a really nice stay although only 1 night.
