Excellent stay staff very welcoming

Excellent and very friendly welcome after 11pm (as we had travel problems,) nothing was too much trouble when we arrived and were greeted by a lovely lady. A large carpark. Breakfast was hot and fresh, cooked perfectly to our liking - also eaten in a fantastic dining room with amazing views and at least 6 variety’s of birds to watch on the feeder etc. a nut hatch feeding upside down was a treat. A comfy sleep and again fabulous view to wake up to from our window overlooking the garden. Soap shower gel and plenty of toilet roll provided in shower room which was of a good size (I have stayed in son where you could not even turn or move on the loo lol!) We will be recommending a stay here to all our friends - thank you for a wonderful stay.

The staff were super friendly and very welcoming, Food was excellent very homely and traditional also the waiting staff were so friendly, The hotel was lovely but could do with a little modernisation but all in all a very enjoyable stay and would definitely go back

My sister and I stayed here for one night for a family funeral nearby. Karen and her daughter Claire were so accommodating and welcoming we were really pleased we chose George Borrow to stay. The twin room we stayed in was really clean and has everything we needed, even a hairdryer. The beds were really comfy and we had a beautiful view of the snow topped mountains outside. Lovely hotel with amazing scenery. Very clean and nicely decorated. Room was as expected, clean and well presented. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We had an evening meal which delicious and well portioned.

Staff were great, friendly. Food was great. Property is a little run down, back bar feels a bit like a storage area. A deep clean would help.

We stayed as a group. THE GOOD The evening meal was nice. Breakfast was very good. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location suited our trip. THE NOT SO GOOD The building generally needs work and is very tired with cracks, worn fittings and suchlike The rooms are very dated and worn. My room was on the top and though clean, it had an odd fusty smell that lingered, despite opening the window. TO SUMMARISE I'd look elsewhere if ever in the area again, unless the rooms and general look and feel can be addressed.

Chose this hotel from previous reviews and have been delighted. It is that rarity, a deservedly successful family-run small hotel. Excellent dinner, excellent breakfast, room with a good bed, ensuite shower and great view. Karen, Rob, Claire and Mark look after all of us with professional standards and attention to detail yet at the same time make us feel like honoured members of the family. And all for a fair price. Thank you all so much!
