Amazing ambient place, lovely owners, best hot bread

Stayed for one night in late September 2021 but wish we had stayed longer. Really did not expect the quality of food or attention detail that Hildur offers in this tucked away oasis. The guesthouse is beautifully run with a wonderful shared space with huge TV and a well stocked honestly bar. But it is the breakfast that is truly outstanding, including freshly baked bread and cooked to order eggs and pancakes. Fantastic to try the homemade jams and syrups too. I would thoroughly recommend this guesthouse and would have no hesitation in returning if I am back in this part of Iceland

Wonderful surprice. Did not expect such quality when staying in such a rural and remote area in Iceland. The closest town is Thorshofn where we went to have dinner (15 min driving time) We had a lovely room in the main building. The bed sheets were icelandic design of high quality. In our bathroom there was a beautiful bathtub and they provided bubble bath and candles (and also lighter). Breakfast one of the best I had during this domestic travel of mine, i stayed in various places for almost a week. Home baked bread and american pancakes. Home made pesto (i would like to have the recipe please). And of course coffee and good selection of teas. Loved the idea of a “honest bar” even though we did not use it. If I were travelling again in these part I would definatly stay again (and again).

Grasteinn guesthouse doesn’t look much from the outside but on the inside it’s incredibly nice. Comfortable beds, cozy interior design and super friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent with freshly made bread and smoothies among other things

The owners were amazing. I had a small accident with a nail going through my hand (my own fault), and Hildur went out of her way to treat my wound, apply antibacterial cream, etc. - something way out of the normal job description of a property owner. Also, beautiful place, very comfortable, and fantastic breakfast. Highly recommend.

This was an amazing experience. The family that owns/runs the guesthouse is very friendly and so knowledgeable in everything local. From sheep farming, local wildlife, geology of Iceland. You name it...and they happily share their knowledge. We had wonderful conversations with both. They are also very welcoming and allow usage of the kitchen, laundry (small charge) and are happy to help with anything you need. Such a different experience from staying at a hotel and definitely worth it.

The room was beautiful and spacious. The owners were very courteous and warm, and breakfast included freshly baked homemade bread. It felt like we were part of their family and we wished we could have stayed longer.

We only had time to stay one night at Grasteinn, but it was truly wonderful! The cottage that we stayed in was very well-designed, very clean, and the owners had thought of everything that we might need. It was really perfect. Our 8-year old was so excited to meet the dogs, and he especially loved visiting the sheep house and meeting Athena and the rest of the flock. Breakfast the next morning was in the main house and was exactly what we'd hoped it would be--delicious, filling, and friendly. We couldn't have enjoyed it more--we hope to be back as soon as possible!

Great place to stay, the owner was excellent and the breakfast was very good.
