After a very long day in Cape Breton, my husband and I stayed here for one night. I paid online and did not need to provide anything upon checking in. The king bed was comfortable. The room was clean. Train tracks are directly behind the hotel. The trains did not bother our sleep at all, though. They provided free water bottles and moon pies. The water coming out of the tap smelled strange. Pricier than I would have liked to pay.

Well, this wasn't what I was expecting - but the pictures are exactly what you get. I bed was huge and we had the best sleep - comfy and very quiet. But the shower - if I could bring that home I would - amazing! Terrific hosts and super clean.

First, the positive: our room was clean. And that's about it. The cafe is no more, having closed permanently. There's a Chevy on blocks in front of one of the cabins and various snow removal pieces strewn about. The only view from our room was of the train tracks and we were serenaded by several trains during our one-night stay. There was no water pressure in either the bathroom sink or shower if someone in another room decided to simultaneously flush a toilet or have a shower. The reception area is a joke. Our air condition unit made more noise than the passing trains. Apart from a couple of student desk lamps on the bedside tables, there was one dim overhead light in the room. The hairdryer had one speed - full force, because the lower level was burned out. The bed mattress was concave and the TV remote was on its last legs. Complimentary coffee consisted of two Nescafe sachets. One of the worst places we've ever stayed at and sets the low bar for everything else that follows.

We rented two of the rooms in the prefabricated motel units behind the main building. The price was very reasonable and the rooms each had an extremely comfortable king size bed, a microwave and a small fridge. The rooms were not huge but were well laid out and had a small table to eat at and two chairs. Outside there was a deck with another table and plastic chairs which we used to eat our takeout dinner, enjoying the water views. There was an in-window AC unit which did a great job keeping the room cool despite it being 30 Celsius or more during the day. Some people may be bothered by the noise of the AC but we had no problem sleeping. We had breakfast in the cafe after our second and last night there. Breakfast is not included in the overnight rate but the a la carte prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity you get at breakfast. I had the pancakes and they were absolutely delicious, drenched in real maple syrup and in case that wasn’t enough they put the bottle of syrup on the table for me to use. You don’t see that very often!
