We went to this hotel thinking it was going to be a botique 5 star experience. It was far from that. Felt more like a Hilton Garden Inn. Except for the doorman/bell-service people, almost everyone else has a highly ambivalent attitude towards service. They aren't rude but just have no life, don't seem to enjoy being at work, never went the extra mile to do anything or answer a question. That's why I say Hilton Garden inn because often in those hotels, there are hardly any staff, they are likely all getting paid minimum wage and hardly look at the job as anything but a bridge to get somewhere better. But at an HGI, you know that coming in. I mean for a $100/night what can you expect. They only have one restaurant for such a high end hotel. And the service there really depends on who serves you. Once, I waited about 7 minutes to be seated while everyone was running around and a few of the staff were talking to each other ignoring us. Another irritating thing is that in the morning, you're supposed to use the rear entrance whereas in the evening, you're supposed to use the front entrance. The gym is very basic and doesn't have much equipment -- is very small (feels like a Courtyard Inn). They charge an amenity fee which I just can't understand. It's supposed to be for coffee (which admittedly was pretty good) and for drinks at 5 pm. They serve very cheap $7-12 wine in small water glasses. You also can't help yourself. They probably give you about 3 ounces so you have to keep going back to refill. I don't mind an amenity fee but please provide some decent amenities. One more thing that I notice which was quite odd. There didn't seem to be anyone over 30-35 years of age except the Bellmen. It was wierd -- felt like everyone there hadn't worked at a hotel longer than a year at most. I would have expected some senior hotel staff at around to impart some stature and gravitas and provide guidance to the junior crowd. One big step would be to have a more gregarious front desk person that at least warmly welcome you. So, in summary, it wasn't that anything was overly bad -- but it just did not meet expectations for a high end hotel. Like I said, think HGI and you won't be dissappointed.
