Top location and the view of the sea is just amazing... Fantastic. The condition of the hotel is very worn out. Whether it's doors that don't close properly, leaky windows in the restaurant area, peeling plaster, worn armchairs/sofas or tripping hazards. The hotel is being renovated, the pool area and the rooms are also being renovated. Our room was functional. Hygiene should be worked on, especially in the bathroom and floor. We had the feeling that they had only swept and not mopped. The shower, on the other hand, was very modern in design but nothing more. The bathroom always had a smell from the drain. We had half board + breakfast was enough for us with various rolls, cheese, fruit, eggs, coffee, tea, juice, cereal, jams, hearty hot meals. In the evening there was always soup, fish, meat, vegetarian and vegetable side dishes as well as various salads and changing dessert/ice cream. In about 10 minutes you can reach a regional supermarket, bars, restaurants and cafés are also right there. There are plenty of free parking spaces at the hotel. You can also rent a car from the hotel.

Overpriced but fabulous location for one night. Think travelodge before renovations. I was a female solo traveller and it suited my plans and felt safe. Staff lovely, easy check in/out and easy to park at the hotel or opposite. Nice little touristy town. My room was clean but missing a net curtain and as it was ground floor I couldn’t open the curtains as people walked past. If I was there more than one night I would have asked to move. Slow WiFi, but it worked, no tv signal. Dust fell off the main curtain each time I shut it. Double glazing needs replacing as it’s not clear, but once I managed to open the door (dodgy lock) there was a fabulous view. Great shower cubicle and pressure, but dirty shower head and sink. No kettle, this is a standard hotel requirement at this price, this needs addressing urgently. Woodwork has rust coming out of it. Definitely needs a renovation, but I wouldn’t spend £87 here again. Breakfast was Ok, no juice on offer but nice coffee machine and a basic range of hot and cold offerings, enough to keep you going. I didn’t see anyone in the pools. The bed was actually really comfortable and it was nice to have a proper double bed. I would return at half the price as it is in a great spot and the staff were really nice, and not their fault the hotel is tired and overpriced. I walked past the Calomar and it looks much newer so sadly I’d choose that place next time.

Hotel in the shadow of a large mountain, right by the ocean. The absolute lack of sun (at least in February) means that the ocean breeze does not dry out and moisture is everywhere in the hotel. Unfortunately, also in the room, things get damp after just one day, opening the windows does not help. The rooms were cleaned very cursorily, towels were changed and beds were made. Nobody washes the floor. When ants came into a dead cockroach (the size of half the size of a hand!) at night and we killed hundreds of them, it stayed there for three days and only the second intervention at the reception resulted in washing the floor. The first time I was given a broom and told that I had to clean it myself. Breakfasts were terrible (scrambled eggs made of powdered eggs), dinners were surprisingly good. In one word - Madeira is wonderful, I do not recommend the hotel even as a base.

Beautiful location between sea and mountains, the hotel is really well located. However, despite visible cooling, humidity felt (example: smell of pillows, smell of pipes in the bathroom). Decent bedding (very firm mattress) despite yellow sheets, far from white, a bathroom that is not ventilated and noisy enough, a very low sink, no power outlets in the bathroom, non-existent product support in the shower, no supports to hang out your towels after a trip to the pool, finally the air conditioning is weak. Paid safe. Sad staff, not very smiling (this may be the daily harshness). Uninviting indoor pool, exterior paint and windows require a good refresh. Balcony drains need to be cleaned. Green growths come out of the pipes and give a disgusting picture (to the rhythm of a drip). Woke up every morning at 8:30 a.m. by the cleaning ladies' trolleys, too bad. In short, it's disappointing because the site is magnificent. After opening the bedroom door opening onto the outdoor swimming pool, waking up early to the sound of the waves is magical. As for meals, these are very very simple and could be compared to those served in a low-level canteen. The dining room is overheated, noisy and cannot be really ventilated (only two windows open to the outside, as well as two doors). The chairs are too low and uncomfortable. The tablecloths on the tables are often stained. If you want to eat outside, it is possible, but on very old supports (some tables are wobbly and make the meal unpleasant). Three parasols fight a duel. Their supports are also very tired. Complete breakfasts for those who like savory foods (eggs, sausages, cold meats), but we have not tested them. Breads, pastries, butter are low levels (without flavors). No chocolate (Nutella type), bland teas (only two choices offered), coffee and industrial orange juice. Dinner: very soft, with fish (often smelly), starters made from leftovers from the day before, meat often very tough, vegetables often undercooked, rice, pasta, without sauces...desserts: unfortunately not very reassuring (colored jellies , flank, a single flavor of ice cream, a fruit salad, etc.) This set will be offered to you every evening. In short, after two days, you are no longer surprised. Beyond the fact that you have little or no choice, sometimes you try a new cake, unfortunately not yet defrosted. So this is of course edible but sorry, very often disappointing, bland, or even not good at all. for a three star, we are disappointed. In summary, apart from the incredible view, move on.

We had booked since the end of 2022 for 14 nights + 1 rental car. 15 days before departure, we are excluded because the hotel practices overbooking and has taken more reservations than its capacity. Fortunately our travel agent is responsive and “replaced” us elsewhere. Un-Catholic methods! Don't count on them! Lack of professionalism.
