Visited yesterday. We have just bought a holiday home in the area and thought we would pop in here for lunch. We walked in and there was a waitress standing at the bar with her back to the room. I asked her if we just sit anywhere, after asking 3 times she turned around and replied "uhuu". Placed order at the bar, which you pay before you eat the food. I just wanted something plain so I ordered chicken and chips. It arrived and I realised I had ordered the wrong thing. Cheap, white, bulk made, watery coleslaw on my plate. And it was off. No one came to the table to ask if everything OK, so I pushed it aside and ate the rest. We finished and waited for ages for someone to take the plates away. The waitress we spoke to upon arrival, spent the entirely of our time here standing at the hatch with her back to the room. She eventually turned around and came to take our plates away. She never asked if we enjoyed our meal. I told her the coleslaw was off and asked her to smell it. She replied she had a cold. She whisked the plates away and never reappeared. We stood up and I told the bar man and he replied 'was it?". The opportunity was there to apologise, but he just looked at me. Obviously standards have dropped. Having staff with a cold serving food to the public and dishing up coleslaw that could potentially give you listeria, not good. We will not be back and will be telling people about our experience. I hope the hotel replies to this and I am more than happy to speak directly to the owner. I gave one star as I cannot leave a zero rating.

Stopped at the Crown Hotel for dinner with my husband. Highly recommend the food and hospitality. The chefs special pheasant breast was very tasty and so was the sizzling chicken dish. Visited a few times over the years and always get a great meal.

Excellent meal at reasonable price. The portions were generous, the food was delicious and the service was prompt. The beer was also good. This dog friendly pub looked uninspiring from the outside but most definitely exceeded all our expectations!

A great time away! The Crown was welcoming, cosy and spotlessly clean. The staff were all fantastic! Wonderful fire burning. The bar is full of character on what was a very busy Saturday afternoon, and provides a lovely cosy atmosphere. We had dinner at the hotel and it was faultless. Fresh decent produce. The breakfast was plentiful and ample choices available too.

Excellent stop before the ferry. Good bar and great restaurant. I would recommend to anyone having to go to Cairnryan and it’s a far nicer place than Stranraer to spend time walking along the seafront or popping into one of the many bars and cafes.

The staff was very friendly and went above and beyond! The food was very good! Know that there is no lift and all rooms are upstairs. Also, the pub downstairs stays open late, so you hear music late into the night.

Booked this ‘hotel’ through *********** on Monday 8th January 2024, seven days in advance of a 15th January check-in. It was booked primarily as it was advertised as ‘dog-friendly’; however, being wary of ***********, thought I had better check direct with the establishment. Five unanswered e-mails later, I telephoned on 11th January, only to be told by ‘Tony’ that, actually, they only have two rooms that are dog friendly, and the one allocated to me wasn’t one of them. I was told to cancel on *********** and book directly through the hotel website. I actually booked it over the phone with Tony who, to his credit, said he would do a bit of room jiggery-pokery and it would be OK. On arrival, I advised that I hadn’t brought the dog (or the wife for that matter, although they may join me the following day). I was shown to my ‘dog-friendly’ room, which was at the very top of the building accessed by narrow, steep stairs; not exactly ‘dog-friendly’ with a dog the size of mine (if he had been there), but a minor point I admit. The room itself. Well, basic, to say the least. Initial impressions were ‘OK’; however, on closer examination several flaws were evident. There are wall lights positioned above the bed, but no obvious switch to operate them! Eventually, after hunting for them, they were found hidden behind the headboard and all but inaccessible – it took a bit of manual dexterity to manoeuvre my quite large hands behind the headboard to switch them on and off, meaning that it was virtually impossible to switch them off at night without almost getting out of bed to do so. It rather defeats the purpose of having ‘bedside’ lights; very awkward. Also, it would have been helpful to have been told where the switches were when shown to the room, rather than having to indulge in an otherwise unnecessary mystery search! Also, the vertical blinds on the main facing window were inoperative and stuck in the open position. Am I to sleep with the blinds open? I had to manually wrestle with the mechanism to close them. I shouldn’t have to do that, and the faulty mechanism must have been known to the management. There is also no blind on the bathroom Velux. Now, you are some considerable distance from adjacent properties, but in theory anyone so minded in these properties could conceivably see you walking about naked in the bathroom. Further exploration revealed a filthy duvet crushed into a gap in the built-in wardrobe. Poor. The television is cheap and gives the impression of being about the size of an A4 piece of paper, it’s tiny. The wi-fi is so poor that the reception is patchy and so pixelated (watching BBC Northern Ireland, incidentally) that I gave up and switched off. Useless. The remote had a mind of its own as well, and I had to virtually insert the remote into the television to get any response. The wi-fi is BT ‘free’, which continuously cuts out after even the briefest inactivity meaning you will be constantly reconnecting whatever devi
