Eco Hotel Orlando Sardegna

Difficile trovare come iniziare.

We come here almost every year, since ten years. Some time back we left 5 stars, but we just can’t go for more than 3, also when comparing cost/benefit with other places. Location is timeless magical! That alone is a reason to come here. Staff and host family are very friendly. Breakfast is superb. The new bar at the pool is fantastic. Wireless works great (I use to work a few hours every day). Unfortunately other aspects deteriorated. Once paradise for families with children, it’s now a party place for local extended families on the week-ends and accommodation for older motorcyclists during the week (very nice chaps, don’t get me wrong). The rooms are on the expensive side and very different in standard and size. Dinner is too expensive for what you get. Vegetarian options don’t exist - maybe one of the reasons why the place seems to have less attractivity to younger customers. A recent expansion (Fior di Sardegna) may bind the attention of the owners and require funds - only explanation we have for why this once wonderful place became mediocrish. We will likely give it another chance, next time in Sardegna, as the place and the nice staff and owners definitely have the potential to be top class again…. and we just love the place.

Beautiful resort. I cannot emphasize that enough. The gardener was out every day. It is stunning. The staff were INCREDIBLE. Couldn't do enough for us. They were chatty, loved talking to our toddler and giving her lots of attention. The manager was so kind and helpful. To be honest all the staff were. The cleaners were wonderful. They couldn't speak a word of English but we worked around the language barrier fine, they adored our daughter and one even gave her little kisses each time she saw her. Anyway that is the staff. The breakfast buffet was amazing. There was so much choice and it was beautifully displayed. They cater to vegetarians and coeliacs very well. The rooms look a little dated but the mattress was so comfortable. I slept amazing while there and I suffer from insomnia!! Laundry service is €15 for a fairly large bag and is ready the following morning all clean and not creased. The only thing I can say that is negative is we were supposed to be poolside but were not. This is an issue we will take up with *********** though. Manager was so good and changed our room. All in all. Spectacular place. 15 min walk to beach / marina. 2 small supermarkets 5 minute walk. Oh and the wildlife is stunning. We had swifts flying down to the pool when we swam. Collared doves, hooded crows, swallowtail butterflies. Highly recommend!!

The hotel complex is nice, with a lot of greenery and big pool. It is located on a hill and walking between pool / restaurant and your room involves walking up and down the hill. This hotel is good for vacation but if you want to travel around and explore the island don’t stay there - you need to travel via narrow mountain road with a lot of steep and sharp rounds every time to and back. It takes an hour in one direction to get to a normal road and then depends on where you are going another 1-3 hours. Food - not good at all. Has nothing to do with the local cuisine. Tasteless, not fresh. Staff is not nice. If you travel and need to get a beg food - better don’t. For breakfast they put a bottle of water, 3 cookies and jam. For dinner, when we come back later and they were waiting us to serve “warm” fresh food, they served a slice of mortadella, cold rice, a red pepper and half boiled potato also cold. Rooms desperately need refurbishment. Not quite clean. Small ants are on the night table. Bathroom is big but shower is so tiny and small you can’t turn around in. Staff is very unpleasant and not supportive. When we arrived by buss, there were 4 reception desk open but they worked so slowly that it took more than 15min per person to check in. Then we had to wait a single golf car to take each one of us to our villa. We had to talk to the manager as one of the rooms was under the stair case with 3 air conditioning units under the window and was very noisy so we asked replacement. The receptionist said that they will check tomorrow. We asked for the manager and he said the same - today they are fully booked and will check tomorrow. When I asked why tomorrow, they know what they have booked, he said he’s busy and can’t deal with us now. Then they never called and we had to keep that room till the end.

Cala gonone is a very small enclave of beaches and caves and dotting along the coastline are many restaurants and coffee shops. This hotel is a little away from the town, approximately a 5 minute drive which allows you be away from the busy typical tourist activities but within striking distance of getting to them should you choose to. The staff are more than helpful to assist and everyone spoke perfect english which is usually not a common occurrence in Italy. I highly recommend this place and plan to return with the wifey in tow
