We are just back from our 8th stay in these apartments – and as usual we had a great holiday. As always the staff, especially Benjy at the pool bar, and Aron in reception, made us very welcome. The apartments have been recently refurbished and we were looking forward to seeing the results; this review will focus on these refurbishments. The apartment had been painted white all over including the doors. Some of the lights had been changed so the apartment generally was very bright. There were a couple of pieces of art in the sitting area but these were behind the sofa and so not easily seen, the décor, together with the furniture, gave an impression of minimalism. The kitchen cabinets had been replaced and a new extractor fan installed (an instruction would have been useful) . The kitchen was, as always, well equipped but a dish that could be used in the microwave would be useful. (We actually bring a plastic one with us) In the sitting area the television was on a white table and there was a light coloured coffee table with a useful shelf beneath it. Some coasters to put drinks on would be useful as this table will not be as forgiving as the glass topped one it replaced. (we used some beer mats from the bar) For seating there is a large sofa. Sadly I have to say it was possibly the most uncomfortable sofa I have sat on. I am short and in order to get any support I had to pile a cushion and two of the outside seat cushions behind me and even then I ended up with a sore back. Before the refurbishment there was a second chair which I would use with just one of the outside cushions and be very comfortable. The bathroom had just been painted and was fine. In the bedroom the beds had been replaced with a very comfortable king sized one. The two bedside lockers (which had had drawers) had been replaced by two large white round butler tables . We really felt the lack of drawers, there is good storage space in the wardrobe – but not as useful as drawers would have been. I have always tried to leave surfaces clear for the cleaners – it was much harder this year as the wardrobe was the only place in which to put personal items. The refurbishment clearly came at a cost with the result that the price per night has increased dramatically and the extras (which are spelt out on a sheet left clearly on the coffee table) add to the cost. 3 euros a day for the safe and 2.50 for a fan really eat into the cash if you are staying for more that a few days. (we stayed for 3 weeks and did not need a fan). We still love these apartments but the extra cost (as well as the lack of comfortable seating) mean that we will look at other options for the future
