La Isla y El Mar, Hotel Boutique

Fantastic staff but standards have slipped. We have been coming to this hotel mostly twice a year since 2016 and the excellence of the staff has always been its greatest asset. Special mention to Sabrina & Itahsa in reception. However since the change in management since Diego Lavado left, the slip in standards is very evident to us. We had problems on day 1 with our safe-ok it was fixed eventually but only after inferring my husband was partly to blame. Totally not the case, even the engineer had trouble. When we arrived the charge for the week was much more than that confirmed in their email when we booked in February even with the discount (which we appreciated).We thought the quote was a mistake that would be sorted out when we checked in. However instead of being charged the correct rate for the day booked, we were charged the rate on check in day, which ws considerably more. It was sorted out when we highlighted this but it felt like a tortuous process & nearly half a holiday later & money spent in hotel was offset against the overpayment charged initially. It really did spoil our holiday with effort of sorting it. Itahisa was very proactive in doing this. When asked what they could do to make up for it, I suggested treating us to lunch in snack bar. Not a big ask but when I reached my room I was phoned & told it was to include 1 round of drinks & 1 plate of food each. They clearly didn't think much of our integrity if they thought we'd be greedy. The next night a man from housekeeping came into our room at 10pm which woke us from our sleep. Bad enough but if that had been a woman on her own it would have been terrifying. What's going on?! No longer any English main channels which they've always previously had. In view of our previous great experiences I wasn't going to post a review here but the final straw of incompetence was receiving a feedback request today in Spanish. I feel very sad writing this.

Not sure there is anything you could fault about this hotel, staff are wonderful, friendly, accommodating and overall seem very happy to help. Room was amazing and totally accessible for my Husband who has MS. We were on a bed and breakfast basis and again food was just lovely, fresh and with plenty of choice. Pool and sunbed area was great, no struggle with bed availability all very clean and tidy. We will be back

Fantastic 5 night trip away with friends. The hotel was first class. The staff from reception to the waiting staff for breakfast were so friendly and couldn't do enough to make us feel so welcome. Breakfast was excellent, with a great choice. The room was very modern with a great sea view. Pool area and pool bar were spotlessly clean, and the sun beds were so comfortable. The location is great, very quiet, yet only 5/10 minute walk to the harbour. Will return.

Stayed at the hotel for 5 nights. All the staff we encountered were very friendly, polite and accommodating. That for me is their greatest asset. This is rated a 5 star boutique but I would say it is more like a 4 star. On arrival to our room we have to call maintenance to fix a piece of the wardrobe that fell down , the safe was not working , no English TV channels and to be honest some finishes in the room were not up to standard . For example wallpaper lifting on walls , grout/silicone in shower needing re done. We also got a room which was "pool view" but our room was literally in front of the pool bar - no privacy at all so we didn't use our balcony which is a shame. The pool area is nice , pool small but fine for adult only. The loungers are very comfortable which was lovely. Food was ok at poolbar , we didn't eat otherwise. It is a good walk uphill to the hotel and a distance from the beach. We enjoyed our few days but I would not return!

Stayed here again and we were not disappointed. Service is excellent. Breakfast buffet with such a variety of high quality food. It is at the top of a steep hill, but there are bus stops outside if you need to venture further afield,

Second time staying here. Great, welcoming staff, spacious rooms, great sundeck with views over the sea.

We booked the Atlantic suite that, according to the ******* description, comes with 2 single beds. Unfortunately, none of the Atlantic suite have two singles beds. We got two duvets, which was nice but isn't the same as two singles. Reception told us that there is no guarantee to get a twin room. That's irrelevant if your room description is clear about number of beds. I would not have noted this hotel if I had known. Otherwise, it's a lovely hotel with a very relaxed atmosphere and vibe to it. Breakfast had lots of choices and is lovely.
