Resort is modern and well maintained. Food is good but could be better. service is hit or miss.

Our 6th visit to this fantastic resort. Our visits have spanned NYE and various times during the year and although we talk about going somewhere new , we keep coming back and thoroughly enjoying each stay. One thing you will notice about visiting El Carmen is the number of couples you meet who are returning guests and not just once - but like ourselves several times even double digits. Yes there have been changes over the years but what continues to stand out about the resort is you really do feel taken care of. I have read the reviews of people complaining about service or unhappy workers but as returning guests, we love that there are very tenured members of staff who remember you and just go the extra mile. There are so many people we could thank for making our stays enjoyable and if i have forgotten certain people I will have to catch you on the next review I make from a future stay. I want to give a shout out to the following folks: - Miskeyla and Dariel - you rock with the passion you show for working to get people up to take part in the extensive entertainment program. Always energetic and I wish more people would take you up on the program. - There are so many folks across the restaurants and bars to thank but to give a shout to a few - Vanessa, Victor, Luis, Cesarina and Charlie - thankyou for always being positive , courteous and going the extra mile. Keep up the surprise cocktails. This visit we stayed for 8 nights and split up the trip 4 nights in a Honeymoon Beach Swim Up Suite and then 4 nights in a Honeymoon 2 story oceanfront suite with plunge pool. No complaints at all for either room. We have now stayed in each of the front buildings. We like to be a bit away from the main pool so building 3 or 9 works best. As usual great service from the beach bars when we were laying out by the swim-up suite. You really do get looked after so do not forget to tip !! Both rooms were as good as ever - not musty nothing broken. Food wise yes Las Olas is now menu only no buffet but the food was still great. There can be a wait sometimes but you are on vacation so it is what it is. We are fans of the French and Steak restaurant. The tomahawk steak in Magna (If you are in an Excellence room) is well worth it. The Magna wait can be quite long. The entertainment program has changed but its still great. The new Dominican nights buffet and band by the lobster house was great and the band awesome. We love to dance and I would like to see more latin dancing on the terrace outside the theater (after all we are in the Dominican) but when asked the DJ will play salsa and bachata for you. Sargassum is a big problem nowadays for most of the islands but the hotel workers here work tirelessly to remove from the beach with a couple of tractors. So , overall this hotel continues to impress. The price point personally is great - especially if you join the rewards program and come back multiple times. Its free to join so make the most of it
