Just back from a hot, steamy, and sparklingly delightful week at Cove Eco. Other reviews are spot on about the good food, asking for more or different, and the lovely attitude of the staff. We enjoyed this locally staffed and run resort, the casual atmosphere, and its authenticity. What comes with that are a few glitches that I point out only to be useful to those who need this info. We rented one of the larger units. Lovely interior, comfy bed. BUT the AC unit in these units is the same size as the ones in the much smaller units. It couldn’t begin to keep up. It is outside the mosquito net (which we did not use because of this). There is a ceiling fan but it sits above the roof of the mosquito canopy so is also not much use. If we were to go again we’d get a smaller unit. We managed to keep our room largely free of sand flies by keeping a beach towel on the floor to block the gap there and recommend this technique! Sandflies are present. We used deep woods off wipes with good results. The snorkeling schedule seems to be a set weekly rotation with limited flexibility based on weather, currents, tides, etc. This was a bit frustrating to us. Our boat was well staffed with 4 employees for just 2-6 of us, but often there was a language barrier when asking for information other than the basics. Just had to trust and go with it. Speaking of trust - our biggest concern, and the reason we won’t return, is that the boats often left us for 45-60 minutes and went out of site. We had our guide with us, but this is just really poor form. The “coffee” breaks are generally in beautiful places, but are a full hour in length regardless of the group energy level or needs. During these breaks the staff play, chat, nap among themselves. Just know that and be prepared to chill. The included excursion is a bit of a circus. During our stay every guest went along spread across four boats. We were all dropped in the water at Fam Channel together and it ruined one of the most beautiful sites. Imagine snorkeling in a long line Disney theme park style. I’m not sure why they couldn’t split the groups. Our entire boat wanted to opt out of the second lagoon stop - rather than offering to take us snorkeling nearby or back to the resort earlier we just had to wait in the boat and sweat it out. This is another example of where language seemed to limit communication. This is the right resort for some people. Just go in knowing, stay safe, and enjoy.
