High Greenside Farmhouse B&B

Not our first visit, we return often because it’s a place where you can really switch off and totally relax. Dark skies, comfy bed, SUPERB breakfast and a very hospitable host. No doubt we shall return in 2024.

Angela the owner was lovely

Take no notice of those reviewers who complain about the untidy yard. It's nothing to do with the hospitable hostess, Angela, as her neighbours are doing her a disservice she doesn't deserve. In any case, this is a remote sheep farm, not a city boutique. The view to the wild beauty of the Howgills at the back is worth the visit alone. The accommodation is clean and comfortable and the chance to dine at the Black Swan a mile away is not to be missed. But don't over-indulge or you won't fully appreciate Angela's excellent breakfast.

The view is fantastic, so lovely a quiet. First time in my life, I have seen a double rainbow. As soon as we get on the road leading to the B&B, I felt like in the movie ‘’The holiday’’, such a lovely relaxed feeling. The room was clean, nice and cosy. You have everything you need in your room, tea & coffee table with kettle, lots of different teas, coffee, hairdryer, tv, towels. Angela is a lovely and warm person. She made us feel very welcome at her B&B There is so much option for breakfast, and Angela was serving it every day at the exact time requested. Due to current virus circumstances, she has taken all the necessary steps to protect other guests and us. We have booked this place for three nights as we were working in this area. We are wedding videographers, so the idea was to work one day and stay two more days to relax. Unfortunately, the amount of work we had did not let us stay longer, and we had to return home earlier than we have planned. I wish we could stay there longer. We will return there one day for proper relaxation as the area is beautiful. If you are looking for a nice, relaxing place in a warm family a**osphere, this is your place to go.

We stayed here for 3 nights as the first part of our tour of Yorkshire and Northumberland. On arrival our first thoughts were that the farmhouse was in an idyllic and peaceful setting, with lovely views of the surrounding hills. Infact our only neighbours were sheep even in the garden behind our family room. Unfortunately, when shown to our room the outside area infront was very messy with children’s toys strewn around. In addition, there was a *****ped down dumped car with several bits missing. We were told by Angela this was on a neighbours property. The positives were: Very welcoming hostess Angela. Comfy bed. Excellent full English breakfast. Lovely area to explore. Negatives: Scruffy outside areas. There were two of us in a family room, it would have been extremely tight for 4 people. Lack of storage area in the main bedroom. Room was tired & decoration needed. We thought the room was expensive for what we paid. Our room was not cleaned throughout our stay. We did mention this to Angela & it is not their policy to go into peoples rooms (we would like to have been advised at the outset). Our summary is that this farmhouse is in a beautiful location ,and if the improvements mentioned above were actioned, this would be a lovely place to stay.

On arrival was greeted with very untidy outside area there was a scrap car in the yard,very dangerous in my opinion. Things did not get any better when shown thr dinning area the tables and chairs were tatty to say the least.our twin room in the annex was tiny and scruffy in appearance.The bathroom I personally would not feel comfortable using. We were beyond disappointed.we felt so unhappy we voiced our concerns and did not even stay.

We spent a very pleasant week at Greenside. Loved the quiet a**osphere of the farm. It is placed very well between the Yorkshire dales and the Lake District making access for both areas very easy. The full English breakfasts were excellent.

Pleasant little guesthouse. It had a homely feel. Treated like a person rather than just a number
