Honeymoon - Day 1 Genuinely the worst experience of a hotel I have ever had, and it is day 1 of our honeymoon. TUI should be ashamed of themselves for promoting this as platinum. Check-in: had a twin room. Rather than change us to a double, we had to wait 6 hours for a mattress topper to be fitted. TUI had notified them in advance. Room: a Travelodge would outdo this place. It is dated, poorly finished, dirty, and is nothing like the room advertised. Dinner: water is charged. Okay, I can let that go, it is bottled, but there are 20-minute waits between courses. The portion size is abysmal: a portion of Carbonara no bigger than a golf ball followed by veal, which was just a bone, literally a bone that could shatter, coated in gravy to pass it off as food. If a kid was served this, it would be a choking hazard at best. I have seen bigger portions on tasting menus. We do varieties of stays between bnb, room only, half board and all inclusive, 3*, 4*, 5* so know roughly what to expect. This ruined the start of things, which ultimately will set the tone for the rest of our stay and the remainder of the honeymoon. I'd have been better getting a B&B and buying street food, which, on that note, is also better quality than what is served here. At over £2000 for a week, we expect better from both TUI and the hotel. We've stayed in 2-star B&Bs that would best this place. What I was equally frustrated with, thoug was the offer to increase my portion size. Yes, but I don't want to be singled out. There is no way I am the only guest that feels this way. Do that for every guest. The first course has no option, so my wife just ate bread instead of octopus, which, while nice, is not to everyone's taste. Why a simple salad bar couldn't be offered is beyond me. I'll give credit where due; the tiny amount of Carbonara we did have was lovely. Dessert is an equally disappointing affair: just a small buffet table. I'm not convinced it is freshly made. A simple gelato from the local street vendors was better, which I can say with certainty because it is where we ended up afterward. The gardens are the only saving grace, and even then, it isn't really maintained. It is also accessed by the public, so again, no real exclusivity to it. I'll be posting a follow-up to this review, hoping they manage to salvage things for not only us but all future guests, but I doubt it. It is, at best, a 3-star masquerading as a 4-star, being promoted as a 5-star. Going to chat with TUI tommorow as well, I'm already wanting to move hotels now, but for now the TLDR is. Save your money; book elsewhere.
