The Kings Head Hotel

Not suitable for tourists carrying heavy luggage

On arrival we were made to feel welcomed the staff were polite and helpful and my case was carried to our. The evening meal was good served professionally and with a smile, we found all of the staff from cleaners, bar, kitchen and restaurant all very friendly and knowledgeable. BRILLIANT.

We stayed here for four nights at the beginning of April and, as usual, everything was excellent. We were luckily enough to be able to park at the rear of the hotel and check-in was quick and easy. Our room was on the second floor, accessed by two sets of stairs. Having stayed here on numerous occasions we were used to the curving, sometimes steep, stairs but this of course may not suit everyone. The room was lovely - a nice size, very comfortable, large bed and great pillows - the only downside was it was quite warm (being in the top of the building) but we just opened the window a couple of inches. Breakfast is plentiful, and the full English sets you up for the day. We also ate here one night, lovely well cooked food on warm plates (!) followed by a generous cheese board (you get to choose three cheeses from a selection of five). Both the restaurant and bar are usually busy which are well deserved. All the staff are friendly, and The King's Head and Ross-on-Wye is a great base to explore the surrounding area.

We liked the character of the hotel , shops in near proximity of the shops and restaurants.Near the river a lovely shirt break .

we chose the hotel because it had free parking and EV charging. Both are true but the VB charge point was cordoned off and wasn’t available.. it was apparently reserved but this was 8.30pm at night and we hadn’t been given an option of reserving. a quick charge was all we wanted …

We decided to stay here for the night on our first visit to Ross on Wye and I’m glad we did. Every member of staff that we came into contact with were very accommodating and friendly, especially the two young men who served us breakfast. We stayed in room 3, it had a four poster bed, lovely en suite shower and an air con unit in the room which we were grateful for as the room was quite warm for March! Very comfortable bed and plenty of complimentary tea and coffee. As other reviews have stated, the stairs are winding but even with my walking stick, it was absolutely fine. The floorboards are incredibly creamy but this just adds to the charm of the hotel. Parking is free and behind the hotel, through a pretty narrow entrance…….I’m glad I wasn’t driving! We didn’t stay for an evening meal, but having read the fantastic comments, I wish that we had! Breakfast was delicious! We’ll definitely be back!

Nice little old pub

What an excellent meal and a lovely evening . I had the lamb bon bon starter, never have I tasted such flavoursome tender lamb before. The main course of duck didn't disappoint it was so tasty and so tender. My husband had steak which he could have cut with a butter knife. Great to go for a meal which is clearly cooked by a top chef as opposed to the usual run of the mill cooks. Excellent service and top quality food. If you've not been before I recommend you go and if you have been before you like me obviously appreciate top quality food in a warm friendly environment.

The hotel being so old is definitely quirky but the breakfast was great, the evening meal we had delicious, the choice of drinks in the bar excellent and the staff just so very friendly. The location great for both the town and the river and walks. Will definitely go back
