We spent two nights at Le Bambou in February and were generally happy with our stay. Location: The lodge is located in a quiet area about 15 minutes from the entrance to Volcanoes National Park, where the gorilla trekking starts. The Karisoke Research Institute, where there is lots of exciting information about mountain gorillas, can be reached in just 5 minutes by car. Rooms: The complex consists of simple bungalows. Both the bedroom and bathroom are huge. The bed is also large and, above all, comfortable. What was really great was the oven in the bedroom, which the staff lit up in the evening upon request. Some of the paint was peeling off the walls, which according to other reviewers on Tripadvisor has been the case for several years. A renovation wouldn't hurt. Service: The hospitality is particularly noteworthy. All employees are clearly trying to satisfy their guests. This is especially true for the lovely owners. As soon as you sit down in front of the fireplace in the lobby, you are offered tea and cookies. When you come back from a trip, the staff will help you take off your shoes and clean them for free. Communication in English worked without any problems. Food: You order your meals in advance (breakfast the evening before, dinner the morning). We were very positively surprised by the cuisine and never left the table hungry. Everything was prepared and served very carefully. In short, we would stay at Le Bambou again in a heartbeat and can recommend the lodge without reservations.
