The Local - St. Augustine

Nice stay. We had a queen room at the back of the building, so it was relatively quiet. Not a large room, but spacious enough for my husband and I. The rooms are renovated to update an old motel and they did a good job with the theme of the pink tropical flamingo to lean into that retro esthetic. Shower was nice. Only downside was that the room had a bit of a musty smell. When we arrived the sheets were damp. Not sure of it was high humidity which caused it, but we contacted the support staff and they resolved it promptly, having the on-site housekeeping staff bring new sheets. There is also a dehumidifier in the room, so it does seem like something they are addressing. Was also excited about the coffee machine in the lounge room as other reviews had noted for a quick cup of decent coffee on the go. I was satisfied with the fresh espresso, but my husband was a little disappointed that their machine wasn't making the milk based drinks properly (probably out of milk for the days we were there?) And had to use artificial milk/creamer instead. All and all a 4/5 stars stay.

We picked this motel because of people's reviews but arrived at this motel and found a totally different scenario. They have no staff on duty, remote check-in. We arrived after flying all day and driving for 3 hours to come into this disgusting smelling and dirty room. I have included a picture of my socks after walking on their floor a couple times. Another photo is of how the "pink room" really looks! Very different than the photos on the website. Another photo is of the coffee they advertise.....NONE! And lastly the check-in, in the dark with light burnt out above. We arrived at 10 PM. The room overpoweringly smelled of dirty, wet dog. Needless to say neither of us slept all night and got up to get coffee. See photo there was NO COFFEE! We walked around the building and the "so called room cleaners" had several of the room doors open and we could see there wasn't much better to choose from. I started crying and my husband said " we will just get a different hotel". He then called the "Marker 8" and they had 1 room left. He secured it and I then texted the remote "Local" person and asked for a refund as their rooms are not what was advertised on the internet and what we thought we were booking. I also sent these photos you see here. He refused to refund us. I told him it was going to be a real financial burden on us to have to pay for an additional hotel as we are retired and on a fixed income but he did not care one bit. We had paid for 6 nights here and spent only 1 sleepless night for $756. Very sad...

Our room looked just like the pictures very clean. It close to everything we wanted to do. We had our bikes so we rode over the bridge to downtown old St. Augustine not far at all. The hotel is a fixed up old hotel if your looking for luxury this it not it. They need to focus on the outside and fix a few things including the pool furniture. We stayed out by the pool area there's only 2 rooms out there which is nice..budget hotel for sure.

Took a chance on this place, but we love the vintage charm of older lodging. Checkin was done via phone. It took awhile and you get your key from a locked box. The room was clean. The bath linens were rather worn, but liked having shampoo and soap dispenser in shower. There is no nightly desk assistant and coffee was not available. But we drove to a local diner for that. We were provided a code for Wi-Fi but was never able to connect. It was a good place to land for a night.

What a treat! A step back in time to the 60’s-70’s, reminded us of motels from our childhood. Our room was adequately sized with a simple and cheery decor. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. Modest dining alcove with a microwave and refrigerator with a small freezer. Coffee was always available in the lobby which included specialty choices. Walking distance to downtown as well as several restaurants closer to the property. The room key was obtained outside the lobby in a bank of “mailboxes” using a code that was texted to you. Very convenient.

Plenty of parking, my room was clean with cold air and hot water. I enjoyed my stay. The check in was confusing as the instructions said to pick up my keys at the front desk, there is no front desk! I walked around the building looking for one.

Super cute vintage style motel! Very clean and beds were comfy. Great location to downtown St Augustine. A+

The Local is conveniently located near downtown without being in the middle of the hustle and bustle. Easy to order Uber eats or Uber rides if you need to it’s also very close to all the shops in restaurants located on A1A. One of my favourite things about The Local is their coffee which is locally sourced from Martin in Jacksonville.

Great location with free parking. Well maintained room and appreciated the 4 pillows on the queen bed. Would stay again!
