Very beautiful location and a genuinely charming hotel, with very friendly and professional service throughout. We would highly recommend a few days at The Lugger in perfect Portloe. Thank you to all the team for making our visit so enjoyable.

A really delightful little hotel in a very picturesque location. It was our first stay here but we were welcomed like returning old friends by the amazing staff. Our harbour view room was very comfortable, the food and service excellent, and the ambience wonderful.

Beautiful location, beautiful views! Staff so friendly would recommend to anyone. We had a beautiful sea view room too ! Menu was very good, view from the restaurant amazing too. Bedroom had everything you needed and more - fresh fruit, fresh tea stocked daily along with incredible biscuits. Even a pair of slippers each.

Once again a great experience. The service provided by all of the staff was superb, and was exemplified by the Scottish lady who was brushing up outside at 8.30 in the evening, and singing as she worked. Everyone looked as if they enjoyed what they were doing.

We stayed in room 304, which had a good size comfortable bed and good storage. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom was fine, but the water pressure from the shower was poor if you wanted to have a shower with a comfortable level of warmth. The food in the restaurant was absolutely delicious, both at breakfast and dinner and the presentation was very good. We stayed for three nights, but found the menu too much the same to eat in the restaurant on each night (the dishes had the same main ingredients with just very small variations) and walked to the nearby pub, The Ship Inn, as an alternative one evening. The staff were helpful, professional and friendly, but the staffing ratio to diners at The Lugger during our stay was inadequate. We felt particularly sorry for the very capable and efficient lady serving at breakfast who was rushed off her feet trying to keep everyone happy. The dining area is very nicely decorated and you have a beautiful view out to sea. There is also a really nice outside terrace directly outside the restaurant where you can sit and take in the glorious view whilst having a drink. The last few miles of road leading to the hotel are single track, with very few passing places, and the parking spaces in the hotel car park are tight for modern cars. So if you are not a confident driver be warned (but you probably wouldn’t be driving in Cornwall if you weren’t confident).

Our room ( 102) was so close to the sea, we woke up and fell asleep to the soft sound of the waves on the slipway, heaven. Everything about The Lugger is quality, the welcome, the rooms, the food, the view and the local team who cant do enough for you. The hotel is situated on a steep hill and if your have mobility issues, be sure to ask the team for help. The rooms are beautifully decorated with the whitest, softest towels I have had in ages and they only use The White Company products which are divine. The breakfast is excellent, fresh, plenty of choice as well as being delicious. Dinner was superb, fresh and locally sourced with a good choice. However if you want lobster or dressed crab, make sure you order in in advance!

On the plus side, our room was clean and the bed very comfortable and we slept very well .The food was delicious both dinner and breakfast . The reason for only 3 stars was the service ( or lack of) in the restaurant both dinner and breakfast. My husband had to ask for a soup spoon ,the butter for his bread roll arrived when he had nearly finished. Another couple requested a wine cooler but none was available so as we had finished our wine we offered them ours ! Another lady on her own told us she had waited over half an hour to be served breakfast. Breakfast service was particularly chaotic. I could go on.Suffice to say I expected better and was disappointed. The staff themselves were pleasant enough but some definitely needed more training and supervision. Lovely hotel in a charming location. Our room was cosy and clean, and the food was absolutely delicious! Would definitely return, and also highly recommend for a peaceful and romantic break! Friendly, helpful staff and interesting locals.
