St. Clair Inn

One of the best places I've ever stayed. 10/10

Very nice room, and facilities. We enjoyed our stay, and used the hotel's restaurant and pub.

The property is beautiful and conveniently downtown. Staff is very friendly. The property is historical so some of the rooms and bathrooms are very small.

Absolutely love The St Clair Inn. Elegant, modern, but with the feel of the 1930s. All of the staff is incredibly friendly and thoughtful. Dinner at The Dive does not disappoint. The food is fantastic ~ and very reasonably priced. We have a patio room opening to the river which is exquisite and spacious. This is a great getaway place! So much better than chains. For a unique experience of luxury and comfort, stay here!

Charming hotel with beautiful ambience and a**osphere. Room was beautifully decorated. The food in "The Dive" was fantastic. The speak easy room was also unique and cozy. I would definitely recommend based on theses things! Staff could definitely be a bit more assertive. Both at check in and check out we waited and then ended up calling out to the office in the back to get the man to come out to the desk. Our server in the restaurant took our order and then seemingly disappeared. Another person brought our food. No one checked in with us, we were wanting to order extra drinks but no one ever came over. I had no cutlery and had to go to the bar to ask for it. Then when we wanted to pay our bill we had to go up and ask for someone to bring it. The staff member working in the speak easy was lovely and knowledgeable - great job done by her!

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with a king balcony room on the river side of the St. Clair Inn. Arriving hungry, we headed straight for the hotel's little restaurant and bar along the river called the Dive. It was completely packed with Kentucky Derby watchers, so that's probably why our dinners took 45+ minutes to arrive. But they were great -- hers chicken in a delicious white pepper sauce, mine a nice New York *****, both paired with gloriously garlicky mashed potatoes and roast asparagus. (I ordered rare, and it came out medium rare, which is why I always order rare.) We split a bowl of some really good broccoli soup as an appetizer. Drinks were large and strong (mine a Manhattan, my wife's a margarita). A fruit tort dessert was really good too. Our room for the night wasn't very big, but it was beautiful, with upscale carpet, bedding, a nice firm mattress, a huge flat panel TV, and a really pretty tile bathroom with large walk-in shower. And what you're paying for here is the location. Right on the river, and giant freighters going by so close you feel like you could reach out and shake hands with the crew. After a good night's sleep we awoke to find the river completely socked in by fog, which made the freighters passing even more surreal -- you could hear the engines and the fog horns, but barely see them as shadows through the mist. The staff was great here, Disney-level "whatever you need" service. It's a little pricey, but between the location, the staff, the updated rooms, and how cool it is to be staying in a restored 1920s historic hotel, it's recommended. We'll be back.
