Ho my Goodness what a Safe Haven of a place, I have lived in Cornwall all my life & never knew this idyllic & beautiful place existed, my friend was actually staying at Lower Barns & told me to come visit because she was actually in an accessible room , I myself am a power wheelchair 🦼 user and thought to myself “ um accessible “? But it ACTUALLY was , I honestly could stay their Independently , the accessible shower room , loo & sink were All accessible, the room big enough to manoeuvre my power wheelchair around and the actual bedroom was so lush with colours , the bed looked so comfy, the fridge was accessible has was the tv and furnishings, Outside was another Huge Smile bringer , I navigated around the extensive gardens taking in the beautiful blossom covered arches, Before I had to head back home leaving my friend to continue to self-heal in these lush & beautiful surroundings we sat had a cup of tea with tucked away in a peaceful corner of the sweet aroma smelling garden , even the short time I spent their I came away refreshed both in my Heart & Spirit from the Special-ness of Lower Barns .

We recently had our wedding at Lower Barns and it was everything that we we could have hoped for. We stayed for 4 nights and our family joined us for 3 nights. All of the rooms were great, really clean with bright colourful decor and excellent facilities. The location is so peaceful which just added to the calm and chilled out vibe that we were aiming for across our wedding weekend. The hot tubs are an added bonus and were enjoyed by all. The food throughout our stay was excellent, this included breakfasts, a delicious wedding cake and a really tasty evening dinner after the ceremony. Really pleased we chose to get married at Lower Barns, thanks for your hospitality Janie and Mike!

After reading many reviews about weddings at this venue we decided to book Lower Barns for our elopement wedding. The reviews main content was how helpful the owners are, how they help make your day so special, how nothing is too much trouble for them, well our experience was the absolute opposite. If it wasn’t for the people we are, our wedding day would have been ruined. After driving 240 miles we were greeted by Mike, whom I presume is the husband, to show us to our accommodation. The owner, Janie whom I had previously spoken to via telephone and email didn’t We booked Lower Barns wedding venue purely on the reviews. They raved about how lovely Janie and Mike are and how they’ll help make your day special and nothing is too much trouble. Definitely not the experience we had. On arrival at the venue Mike came out Janie didn’t come out or in fact ever introduce herself at any time during our 2 nights stay. The only time I saw her was during our wedding ceremony as unfortunately we had previously arranged for them to be our witnesses. During our long drive down to Cornwall my sister telephoned to say her and my brother in law are already in Cornwall and have their wedding outfits ready and a bottle of champagne to celebrate. They wanted to surprise us and be our witnesses. We were so happy and excited they had done that for us. Before showing us our accommodation, I told Mike we’d had the lovely surprise from my sister and brother in law and we’d like them to be our witnesses. Mike’s response was “we don’t like surprises” my initial thought was, it isn’t your surprise it’s ours for our wedding day. He then stated he’d go and ask Janie. We were unpacking our car when Mike returned and stated “I’ve spoken to Janie and they’ll have to pay twenty quid a piece if you want them as your witnesses. Bearing in mind we had paid £1500 pounds for 2 nights and £450 for Mike to be our photographer. They now wanted another 10% so my sister and brother in law can sit with us for 15 minutes. At this point I will mention that my brother in law has terminal cancer and has made the rest of his life all about making memories. Myself and my husband were not only astonished but absolutely fuming at the sheer greed. I said to the back of Mike’s head (he’d carried on walking as he told us) but they’ve driven all the way from the Midlands to which he responded “it’s in the terms and conditions”. We then had to drive into town to tell my sister and brother in law who were obviously very upset. They offered to pay the £200 to be witnesses but after discussing it at length, we decided on principle not to be held ransom for £200. The joy had been taken out of the whole experience. We’d intended on drinking champagne in the hot tub and really having a lovely time together but the atmosphere changed. We felt unwelcome and uncomfortable and we both stated we couldn’t wait to leave. The next morning, our wedding day, I wanted to stay in bed unt

We have just returned from having our wedding at lower barns. It was an absolutely weekend. We booked without seeing due to having to cancel our wedding due to covid. Unfortunately last year we had to reschedule again which was very emotional for us. Janie was really flexible and we were able to find a new date. On arrival we were both blown away with how amazing the grounds and the rooms were. There are a few places to have the ceremony and each one is unique. We stayed in the cranny and our guests made use of the three hot tubs. The bathroom in the cranny is incredible. Everyone was complimentary about how clean and interesting the rooms are. Mike has clearly made a lot of it bespoke and the details are amazing. The day was so smooth and I didn’t have to lift a finger. Mike took our photos, he went out of his way to take us to some nice spots for our wedding pics. All the food was so good. I honestly havnt got one bad thing to say about the day it was perfect. The next day everyone left and Lower barns was so peaceful just the two of us. We got to enjoy the private hot tub and the animals who live there. Thank you to Janie, Mike for making our wedding day the best day ever. Also thanks to lucy who cleaned our rooms. Frida the dog and the owl and cats who we loved spending time with while we were there! If you are looking for a wedding venue I highly recommend this place!

We have just visited Lower Barns for our daughter’s wedding . We were a family party of twenty adults. What a fantastic place. I was expecting great things from this place and it surpassed all of my expectations. The accommodation and rooms were out of this world. Totally unique. In addition to this, the service provided by the owners, Mike and Janie was of the highest possible standard. It is impossible to rate this place highly enough. On this occasion I must also mention Jodie ( Janie’s sister). What a wonderful trio. Every detail from the first minute of our arrival to the time of our departure was absolutely superb. Anyone looking for a very special wedding venue should look no further than this place. Thank you so much for giving our daughter and her husband such a memorable wedding.
