OYO Lakeside Haydock Hotel, St Helens

I booked this hotel for a short 2 night stay to visit family however was contacted a week before I was due to arrive saying the home office had closed the hotel due to needing the hotel facilities for refugees. At the time I thought okay at least I have a bit of time to find another hotel which I did. On the day of me travelling to St Helen's I received a message saying OYO was looking forward to my stay that day, confused I tried to contact OYO and could only get a very unhelpful automated voicemail with instructions to go to their website and message online. After sending a message explaining they had cancelled my booking I carried on with my trip but then received a message saying I would have to pay a cancellation fee for the full amount for 2 nights of £120.10! After sending numerous messages to the online messaging system I only received what seemed to be written by a robot not answering my questions. It was only when I sent a message saying I would take legal action that I was contacted saying they would pay me my full pay back and apologised. I told them their hotel is still being advertised online and to take it down otherwise this would happen to others. I sent this email 2 weeks ago and can still see they are advertising it online. So this is a warning for anyone looking to book there, I didnt want anyone to lose their money or go through the aggravation that I did.

The staff were friendly and I even won a bottle of wine on a scratch card as they were celebrating 2years open . Would defiantly go back 😀

The staff were brilliant couldn’t fault them. Room wasn’t cleaned very well but the bed was comfy. A few undesirables were staying,causing trouble screaming and shouting outside. Even abusing a taxi man. The place is not so bad but won’t be staying again as since found out the homeless,people coming out of prison etc are housed there. Didn’t feel very safe. Shame

Comfortable bed and good size room. Room was clean. Corridors were filthy and reception not that friendly

It's the worse experience I've ever had got there with family only to find my reservation had been cancelled by the hotel disgusting

Very friendly and efficient receptionist. No TV aerial cable in room. Promptly replaced by reception. Smell from sewers in bathroom. Loose toilet seat and tap on wash basin. Toilet paper so cheap your finger go through. No soap provided. Used towel in bathroom and only 1 clean one provided. Dirty cup mark on bedside table in covid period! Bathroom waste bin not empty. No waste bin in room. Insufficiently thick pillows and only 1 each. Having frequently stayed in similar price and cheaper hotels throughout Europe I can say this is the worst.

A budget hotel. So I set my expectation low. But lower them more. Stale smoke smell in the room. Shower not working and no plug for the bath. Paper thin walls so you heard every door on the corridor open and close. Quiet time after 10 was a joke. It was 3 am before the party in one room.stopped.

Very friendly and helpful staff
