Penny was very welcoming! What a quaint place to stay with Southern hospitality. The fresh baked chocolate chip cookies were an added charm. We stayed here overnight for.l a couples get away and visited Cumberland Island the following morning. The Spencer House had a full breakfast served and also packed lunches for us. Would highly recommend this BnB.

Such a Beautiful inn. Service was superior! Penny and Misty made sure we had everything we wanted and or needed. We enjoyed the clawfoot tub and breakfast was delicious with plenty of options.

We stayed at this Bed and breakfast about 10 years ago, with the previous owner, and it was wonderful. The food was outstanding, your typical 4 course meal that you expect at a B&B (my wife and I stay at 1-2 a year). Fast forward to last weekend, we stayed again with the new owners. THIS IS NOT A BED AND BREAKFAST anymore! It was more like a Holiday Inn Express. They had a continental breakfast set up with muffins and granola. The "quiche" was liquid egg mix that was microwaved. It was literally a square of spongy eggs, no seasoning, no quiche crust. There was enough coffee out for only my husband to get a cup. This used to be such a nice weekend getaway, but we will not be back to this place. I will add, Penny was great! The "manager" however was not personable or friendly. Never smiled, acted peeved when we checked in and she had to help the young girl with the computer. Came out of the back like we just woke her up, with slippers on and pimple patches on her face. Not professional! The mattresses are old, the rooms were not clean, the TV remote had battery acid coming out, so it didn't work. Not worth the price they're charging!

Quaint bed and breakfast in St. Mary's, easy walking distance to restaurants and the ferry to Cumberland Island. Nice amenities - breakfast with lots of variety, self serve coffee bar, afternoon tea and cookies... They have maintained the historic charm of the inn while making it comfortable for guests. Penny can help you with anything you need!

We stopped through St. Mary’s on our way back from the Florida Keys to North Carolina. The Inn is lovely and historic. We appreciate all the historic qualities and the beautiful floors etc. The Inn had sent many things to us prior to our arrival asking our favorite beverage, favorite flowers etc. etc. It set a pretty high bar of expectations. When we got there they did not have our beverages of choice nor flowers, etc., not the end of the world, but probably should not send that form out if they don’t intend to apply the information to the Stay. Also, the decor is starting to look rundown. The window treatments downstairs don’t even hang properly in the rooms and furniture in places needs to be recovered, etc.. The breakfast was nice. Overall, a nice stop over.

The Spenser house is amazing! As a travel agent, I want to experience and rate properties to create a list of “Go TOs” for my clients. The Spenser House will be at the top of the list for GA coastal getaways!!!! The staff is amazing; they are very accommodating and friendly. The rooms are clean and comfortable. As a person who is gluten free, the breakfast had enough selections that I didn’t feel slighted at all.

Lovely ambience and warm, welcoming staff. We’ve stayed here four times in the past 6 months, as we are building a house in the area. We look forward to our visits! The rooms are clean and comfortable and charming. We enjoy sitting in the living area in the evening with a glass of wine and chatting with Miss Penny, who is a delight. Misty runs the inn with warm, professionalism. The breakfasts are homemade and delicious, as are the treats they offer in the evenings. They always have beautiful flowers on display and candles burning. The little touches that make it special. We feel like Spencer House Inn is home. We will be back for our next visit in June and look forward to it. If you’ve never been, you must take the ferry to Cumberland island and have Deb at Old Molly’s Tours acquaint you with this magical island and its fascinating history.

Even though we checked in late, Penny met us with flutes brimming with champagne! Afterward she gave us a short tour of the lovely house and showed us to our charming room. Penny also made sure we had a packed lunch for a trip to Cumberland Island the next morning and helped us with storing bags. The place is lovely, Penny made it work smoothly!

Our many visits to Spencer House Inn go back 25 years or more. We were always thrilled with its cleanliness, the quality of the breakfasts, and the general efficiency of the place; and of course its location is ideal: It's the gateway to Cumberland Island, and the town is sweet, with a good bookstore, a wonderful historic house museum, and a couple of nice restaurants. Over the years we have given Spencer House Inn 5-star Trip Advisor reviews. The location has not changed. The antique furniture and lamps, thankfully, have not changed. Sadly, other things have. The new owners -- evidently a corporate entity, Brham -- seem to run the place on a shoestring, and pretentiously: The offer of champagne upon arrival, which we refused, is less important than cleanliness and structural integrity. I hadn't set out to find fault, but the dirty bath mat with scuff marks and a large, circular yellow stain was the first alarm, along with, we saw, sheets stained pink in two spots. Is no one monitoring what goes in and out of the laundering service? Or even looking at the sheets when making the bed? General cleaning, too, was minimal: beneath our bed was an old candy, where the floors meet the baseboards was dusty, and in the cupboard was hanging what looked like a used hydration bag. While the first floor had received a paint job since we last visited, it was badly done, with smears of wall color on the ceiling. Really. A world-wide corporation cannot do better? The second-floor porch is a mess, with a rotting column among other troubles, now is the season to be working on it, but there's no sign of ongoing work. We had been looking forward to sitting on it as usual with our cousins, who had also rented a room, but it was off limits. We all would have understood had there been construction tools and wood lying around on it, but that wasn't the case. A world-wide corporation can't get a repair going? The two young women we met were helpful, pleasant and seemed to be working very hard within the confines of corporate strictures; what the place needs is an eagle-eyed manager like the previous owner, Mary, who really ran it, and money which Brham evidently is not spending. We had expected we would, this time, find Spencer House Inn better than ever, that new owners would shine it up. It was not the case."Brham" has done the Spencer House Inn no favors.
