I arrived at the Cathedral Hotel to find it completely shut up with a sign on the window saying that the pub was shut. No bother I think, I'll call the phone line, the hotel must be up and running. Turns out not, I arrived in Salisbury to find the hotel I booked in July is completely shut up with nobody there. No cancellation, no email nothing. I popped to the Red Lion Hotel opposite incase they knew what is going on to find out its been happening for ages now. Completely disgusting, I was lucky enough to have a friends room to sleep in, but this is pathetic.

Pros Receptionist very pleasant and all worked smoothly. Sheets were clean and cotton. Location Cons Bathroom mouldy Window furry No mattress protector- sheets were directly on to mattress. Only 1 teabag in room Breakfast was a'nightmare No bowls No cups No hot water No system. Dining room busy Long wait for food to arrive. orders were put into computer and came out of the kitchen in order but as no system im place they were handed out randomly so some people waiting excessively long. Floor in dining room and up the stairs filthy and so sticky you could barely move. Rooms did not look like the photos. Also v noisy as busy bar. I can t believe that this place is allowed to stay open

The whole place was dirty. The shower in my room was disgusting. Mould on the ceiling. Toilet seat broken. There was dirt & dust around the edges of the carpet. Chair was broken. Bed had no fitted sheet - 2 single sheets tucked (not very well) sideways. No mattress cover. I complained and the response was “oh I’m sorry about that”. The stair carpet was filthy and the floors in the pub area were sticky. There were pigeons roosting on the drain pipes outside the window and there was a rat in the beer garden. The hotel was booked via a travel company my organisation uses and I have advised it should be removed from their list

Dirty hotel with no water in room - avoid at all costs. Nothing more to say other than lights not working, furniture damaged. Possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed, whole family upset at how bad it is

Just a one-night stay, but turns out that was enough!. The room was awful, dirty, dusty with no shade on the ceiling light, wall lights hanging off!. In the bathroom, wash basin cold tap loose & basin cracked & dirty. Moreover, the shower was also generally dirty and one of the sliding doors 'fell off' when tried to close!!. Danger lurks when using the shower as the temperature control not working -really hot with no cooling control!!. Don't try & get issues resolved because staff are not interested -I left feeling really disappointed, emailed the manager direct-no acknowledgement or reply- emailed the hotel direct (twice) & after a week STILL no acknowledgement or reply. BEWARE! If you stop outside to unload you will get a [parking ticket!! Avoid!

Just had 2 nights at this hotel. Can't fault the staff, and the breakfasts were lovely. The whole place however needs a complete overhaul. Everything was very tired looking and the bar area had holes in the walls, sticky floors. The disabled toilet had a lid that just wouldn't stay up which for people with severe disabilities could be a problem. Our room was ok but the bathroom had a shower door hanging off, we had to get someone to try and move the shower temperature knob down as the water was too hot and we couldn't budge it. The taps on the sink moved everytime you tried to turn them on. Bit of black mould on the tiles at the top. Furniture very dated. I will say the bed was comfortable though. Could be a lovely place to stay if it had a big cash injection to do it up. All photos are from our room.

Terrible, place hadn't been properly cleaned in several years (we found old tickets behind the furniture and under the bed). No hot water so couldn't wash for two nights. Appalling treatment, terrible attitude, ignoring our calls. Havent heard back about a refund, though they said they'd be in touch. Very loud from bar downstairs and from noisy street, difficult to sleep because of noise and from knowing that the place was generally filthy. Glasses and cutlery at breakfast simply unusable, unhygienic.

Don't waste your money here. Only 1 light worked in the room. Shower was boiling hot so couldn't use - the shower just filled with water as plug not draining, window full of cobwebs and missing double glazing so kept awake most of the night. The room was boiling hot all night. We were told breakfast was at 7am when we checked in. Came down in morning to be told sorry not till 8am because of Jubilee! No use to us when we needed to be somewhere at 8am. Totally disappointed.
