Their valet parking employees are just bullies!!!!! I’ve stayed at this hotel for work several times in the past few months. That will not happen again. I am handicapped and have a handicapped license plate. This hotel has 2 designated handicapped parking spots with the blue handicap signs. I have parked in one of the 2 spots a couple of times without incident. However, that has changed. The past few times I’ve parked there I’ve had a valet guy tell me that it’s valet parking. I pointed out it’s actually handicapped parking, and left it at that. But I’ve had to have that conversation a few times. I’m Titanium Elite with Bonvoy. I’m in this area weekly for work. I’m no stranger to hotel stays. However, the valet at this facility seem more concerned with getting their $35/night for parking than they are in repeat stays. I got proof of this last week. During my last stay at the Marriott Del Mar I forgot a couple of items. I called the hotel and they said housekeeping found the items. I explained I’ll be in the area the following week and I’ll be in to pick them up. When I got to the hotel, I parked in the same designated handicapped spot I always park. And again, a valet came to tell me it’s valet parking. I explained to him that he and I have had this conversation before. It’s handicapped parking. He started yelling for his manager and I went into the lobby to retrieve my items. As I waited at the front desk, the valet manager came in and YELLED at me that it’s valet parking and that he will have my car towed. I asked “Is it parked illegally?” No answer. I said “Call a tow truck. Good luck getting a tow company to tow a legally parked car in a handicapped spot with handicapped designation”. He then said they have an ADA approved policy that allows them to tow cars from those handicapped spots. I said I would love to see that policy that overrides federal law. He then YELLED at the front desk to “ADD $42 PARKING TO HER ROOM!!!” I then explained, I’m not staying here. How would they do that? But that was confirmation that this is about the parking fee. They believed that I wasn’t paying the parking fee because I wasn’t allowing them to park my car. If they’d asked, they could have looked back at all of my stays and see that, despite parking in the designated handicapped spots, I DO pay the $35/night parking fee. EVERY. TIME. Maybe implement a permit policy where when a customer checks in, they’re given a permit to place on the dash of their car so the valet parking staff won’t harass customers who have other hotels where they can choose to stay.
