Overall, we liked this hotel. In a good location just off the busiest streets of the Gaslamp area, it has old world charm, was clean and was generally quiet. We had (inadvertently!) booked a really large suite, with lovely furnishings and a balcony. The latter was probably overstated as it was minuscule and only one person could stand on it at a time! However, for all the space, most seemed wasted. There was no desk or table near power points to enable a workspace. The kitchenette had no plates or bowls. Plus, all the cups were paper and wrapped in plastic. No wine glasses either. Were they worried about the cockroaches? We killed three the first night but saw none after that. Nor were there safes in rooms. You needed to have your valuables locked away at reception. The bed was super comfy and there were gowns. Special mention to the lady originally from Fiji on reception - she was lovely and helpful. Also a tip. Put the ‘do not disturb’ sign on the door. Otherwise the very enthusiastic cleaning team start trying to come in do their job before 9am!
