This was our first stop in Costa Rica and we knew it wasn't the best area of San Jose (so if you go out book a taxis especially at night). Reception were friendly and helpful and we were quickly settled into our room 110 on ground floor (looking into the middle of the court yard area (away from any road noise). Room was basic but had everything we needed, shower was good, bottled water in room and bed was comfy. We ate the first night in the hotel and the food was fine (see pic), plenty of choice. Ignore their website re meal times as evening meals were available (6.30 to 9pm). Breakfast was a standard CR offering but was fine and reasonable options. I believe it started at 6.30am? We got a takeaway breakfast on 2nd day as we left at 6am which was fine. Good stay overall and the hotel did everything you could have expected of them.

Property itself if very nice - fresh, light, airy, organized around a charming swimming pool; restaurants pleasant, food quite tasty and reliable. Only drawback - in the middle of a semi deserted area of abandoned apartment buildings, commercial buildings. Safe enough during the day - just slightly depressing and no place to walk

Average hotel. My wife was disrespected by one of the male reception staff who completely ignored her. Room was small and basic. It’s in a very dodgy part of the city and after walking 20 mins we’d only be arrived on the edge of the centre. We wouldn’t stay here again

I found this hotel from another app while on my recent trip to Costa Rica. The hotel is located in the heart of San Jose and has several sight seeing areas within walking distance. The hotel staffs were professional and very helpful. My room was spacious, clean and comfortable.

I arrived at the Auténtico hotel on February 4. I reserved a suite with two queen size beds. I was given a room with one queen size bed for the same price. I had no air conditioning for the first 3 days. For four days construction was being done in the room next door from 7am. When I spoke to the front desk they were extremely rude and told me that hotels all over the world do construction. This morning I asked if there was a mall nearby and could they help me get an Uber. When I got to the mall it turned out it did not open for two hours. I have traveled all over the world and never been treated like this. During my stay I contacted the front desk every day, my dentist, the US Embassy, multiple consumer protection agencies and my credit card company. Today I called the hotel to see if there had been any resolution and he hung up on me. I am not in the business of giving up.
