Casa Lima B&B
4.2/573 Reviews
We have stayed at Casa Lima for years. The location is great since it is walking distance to our family's house. But this stay was not pleasant. We stayed in 2 room family suite, which we have stayed in this room type before (but received a different room). There were cobwebs everywhere throughout the 2 rooms. I am talking large, draping cobwebs in all the corners, it was dirty. These could have easily been removed with a broom. The room did not feel clean and our youngest was not comfortable. We had arrived late at night and had been communicating this to the hotel all along. It didn't seem like they were ready for us, the owner/manager was grumpy and seemed irritated when we asked for some water. The main 1st room had a double bed and a fold out couch. The bed was comfortable, the couch was not. There was a wardrobe to place your things. The fridge did not work. The adjacent room, had three twin beds, no windows. There was nowhere to put anything, no closet, no wardrobe, not even space for a suitcase. The adjoining door did not close unless you deadbolted it, not too comfy for a family with young kids. The bathoom door in the twin room didn't close at all, it would slide open, and most definitely didn't lock. The TV in that room didn't work either. We did report that the fridge didn't work, but they didn't do anything about it. The courtyard, as always, is amazing. It is like a jungle in the middle of the city with a ton of plants, trees, flowers and colorful rocks. There is a coi pond with a couple turtles and you can feed them if you ask for some food. There is also a large cage with a bunch of birds, which adds to the ambiance. The breakfast is simple, but good. The servers are awesome. I feel like the last 3 stays at this hotel have gone considerably downhill. i also feel like the price was a lot higher than we paid in the past. We will be looking for another go to hotel in the future.
Crowne Plaza San Jose la Sabana

Stayed here on a tour of Costa Rica, for a total of three nights on arrival and between our extension. Typical city hotel, very comfy and large rooms with big bathrooms, plenty of toiletries etc. Lovely staff, although not very attentive in the main restaurant! We ate lunch, dinner and breakfast in the main restaurant - all good. Also a great meal in the Japanese restaurant. It was quite cool, they keep the aircon on quite high and the weather was windy and cloudy so turned it off in our room! Nothing much nearby, very convenient for airport but only a supermarket and McDonalds within walking distance. The park was ok for a quick walk, only a few yards away.
Barceló San José

The best hotel I’ve ever been privileged enough to stay at. Barcelo San Jose this Gorgeous building, and it only gets more breathtaking when you walk in. High quality rooms and high quality service. Excellent property and very convenient to USC activities. Front desk staff is extremely efficient, pleasant and helpful. Property is clean and has a fantastic old time charm.
Casa Jardin del Mango

Firstly if you’re considering staying in this hotel perhaps have a look at its reviews on booking dot com where is has a 9/10 rating from 391 reviews. For some reason it’s listing on TripAdvisor seems to be minimal. We spent a night there as a group of three while transiting through San Jose. PROS - ROOMs/COMMON AREAS - This is more a guesthouse than hotel. The common spaces are particularly large - huge kitchen, large living room with tv and couches, fish tank, resident hedgehog, small workout area, garden, etc. Would be a particularly nice place for someone staying in San Jose for an extended period as it feels like a home not a hotel. Our room also was nice. Comfortable beds. Clean. No air conditioning but San Jose is at such elevation that this doesn’t matter. - LOCATION - There was ampm convenience store only five minutes walk away. Not too far from bus station - short Uber ride. - WIFI - Worked well. - SERVICE - friendly. - SECURITY- suburb felt safe. Metal door at entrance. Room locked. - VALUE - only 43USD for the night which was very reasonable. Was hard to find budget-mid range options in San Jose. CONS - Bathroom situation is a little hectic. There are two showers but they are in the same room with some frosted glass so don’t really offer much privacy. As a result people lock the door to access both and so you can a bit of a line up in the morning.
Rincon del Valle Hotel & Suites

We were not able to have a better welcome and goodbye to Costa Rica. We spent the first and last nights of a family trip (two adults and two adolescents) of just over a few weeks across the country. The hotel was very comfortable and comfortable and we were looking for a good hotel for arrival and booked Rincón del Valle. We were fully struck twice: super friendly and efficient staff, continuous improvement facilities, comfortable beds and excellent breakfast (the first breakfast in Costa Rica, typical of the country, could not be more struck). And we could make a little bike and tape to fight jet lag and so many hours of flight. Ideal location, quiet, well communicated, with gastronomic offer close to, the national stadium ... The trip we took you quite for free and in the hotel advised us and helped discover San José and its tips on different destinations and activities We liked the whole journey, but the first impression in a unknown country is important, and there they already won, we began to understand that it means PURE LIFE. We will return to Costa Rica or Central America, and we will certainly sleep and breakfast again in Rincon del Valle. Thank you for everything. Pure life.
La Sabana Hotel Suites Apartments

Welcoming, clean, bright, comfortable & relaxed are all words that come to mind when I think of our stay at La Sabana Hotel! We enjoyed the location, being out of the city of San Jose - but close enough to walk into town if we wanted. The La Sabana park is very close & a safe park to explore. There are restaurants & shops a quick walking distance as well. If we make it back to San Jose, my husband and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!
