We were able to stay in this exemplary and modernly renovated, classic grand hotel for 2 days in mid-March 2024. The reception was friendly, the valet parking offered was very relaxing and the check-in was OK - even if the lady in charge had to be called back from her break. Our room (standard with a small balcony and valley view) was already available at 1:00 p.m., was close to the pool entrance and had comfortable beds, a large TV, Nespresso machine and the latest equipment (especially the bathroom and soundproof windows). We liked it, even though it was a bit small. The view of the valley and the church was phenomenal. We also particularly liked the bar area with competent, friendly bartenders and the relaxed breakfast when there was little occupancy in the large hall with dedicated service. However, we also find the surcharge for individual egg dishes at breakfast unusual. With all the praise - why only 4 out of 5 points? We didn't like the following points: - the unconfident, nervous and erratic receptionist, who promptly charged us incorrectly and didn't know about the spring offer we had chosen, really annoyed us. The competence and personality here definitely do not meet the standards of a 5-star hotel. - the hotel's current dinner model with a 4-course menu with limited options was not right for us at least. - the wellness area with its great design was wonderfully relaxed despite the low occupancy at the beginning of the week and there was enough of everything (loungers, towels, 2 saunas, small fruit basket, etc.). But unfortunately the cover of the outdoor pool was broken on the last day, so we were unable to use the impressive pool. We were given free access to the wellness area of the Hotel Badeschloss opposite. Many thanks again to the lady in the wellness area of the Straubinger for this suggested solution. On the day of departure our car was already waiting right outside the door - we liked that. If everything is better coordinated, the Staubinger could become a future option for relaxing short stays in beautiful Bad Gastein!
