Kimpton Canary Hotel

I’ll start by saying this is the first review I have ever written about anything… This hotel is beautiful. The valet and the front staff were lovely. The rooftop pool was perfect and the location was just right. However- the walls of the hotel rooms are PAPER THIN. You can hear absolutely everything. When we first checked in at 430pm, there was housekeeping working on the room next door and it sounded like a construction site (we actually to confirm it there was)- vacuums hitting the walls, furniture being moved, stuff being dropped onto the floors- but the worst was very loud conversations about things that should not be discussed in a work environment at a $500/night hotel. In order to mask the noise, we put on some music in our room (at 5pm mind you) and 10 minutes later we got a knock on the door reporting the music was too loud! The next morning we woke up to our neighbors laughing hysterically and blasting Taylor swift (and hey, I’m a swiftie myself), but the loud cackling is not something I want to be woken up to on vacation. I am really sad to say I will not stay here again. It was definitely not worth spending almost $500 for one night.

Wonderful boutique hotel in probably the best location in Santa Barbara — with all the amenities you need and an excellent hotel restaurant.

Can’t say enough great things about the hotel. Excellent service and friendly staff, always willing to please. Spacious quiet room, comfy bed and pillows, yummy things in the restaurant for dinner and staff willing to accommodate our breakfast requests. Coffee bar in the morning was most welcome and plentiful! Excellent location in town and super close to the water and the Funk Zone for some fantastic dining. Shout out to Edwin at the front desk and all the lovely staff. Thanks for a wonderful week!

An excellent location, a beautiful lobby and a good restaurant

The property was well updated, the onsite restaurant was good but the staff really stood out and made the stay excellent (especially the valet staff).

Many pluses and no discernible negatives. Well-located (and pricey) hotel is right next to the main drag (State Street), and about a mile walk to the beach/wharf. Excellent food at breakfast (and great service by Jamie). No gym but free to use Gold’s Gym, which is literally next door. Rooms are well-decorated and the bed is comfortable. Water pressure in the shower is not great, but ok. Maid service was every day. Roof top pool is nice. Free bike rental is convenient. Like all Kimptons, there is a happy hour in the lobby every day from 5-6pm. I saw a sign for rooftop yoga on Saturday mornings — would be nice to also have one during the week. Great service generally, with shout out to Edwin at the front desk. Many dogs were staying when we visited, which added to the friendly a**osphere.

It's a beautiful hotel which has more pros than cons. The location of this hotel is super awesome. It's a 5 min walk to State street, where all the action like shopping and restaurants are at. It's also walking distance to the major attractions. We walked everywhere and even to Stearns Wharf (25mins walk). We took the breakfast package with the hotel. Breakfast was always amazing. 5 stars for food quality and service! We always look forward to our time there. Room was pretty and comfortable. We got the room with the balcony, it was the corner room with a good view. It gets quite dark in the room as well, so ladies please bring a lighted make-up mirror. The hotel reception team are awesome. They try their best to make you feel comfortable and that your room requests are met. There was this one time where we requested for firmer pillows as the ones provided in the room were soft. Additional pillows provided by the housekeeping team but they didn't meet the brief, all were still soft. I had to call the reception team to help, as it was already in the evening, no housekeeping team was available, so that kind lady at the reception, delivered the firmer pillow herself and sent it straight to my room. She's so amazing and made my day! Also, this is another hotel with a housekeeping team that doesn't bother to wash cups and wouldn't help to tidy the room i.e. hangers placed on the bed, will still be left there when you come back. I'm not sure if the housekeeping team is outsourced or part of hotel staff, but the entire customer experience also includes housekeeping service (this is a note to the hotel management to look into). Also, just so that you know, there is no coffee making facilities in the room, but hotel provides coffee with cups in the hotel lobby for guests in the morning. Shower pressure isn't great but i can overlook it because there are more pros than cons in this hotel. I loved my experience regardless.

The staff at Kimpton Canary shared incredibly welcoming and generous hospitality during a recent stay for our wedding anniversary. We received early check-in and late check-out, an upgraded room, a complimentary bottle of Cava, chocolate covered strawberries and complimentary Prosecco and dessert at Finch & Fork. While a Sunday Monday stay in February is not exactly peak, hotel was serene despite Super Bowl Sunday and Santa Barbara Film Festival. Great location for State Street stroll and bike ride to the beach. So grateful for a gorgeous wonderful visit.
