Rio Vista Inn & Suites Santa Cruz

What a great place ! We stayed in the attic room, 12. It was a great room. Sure, it shows a bit of wear, but nothing that was a deal breaker. The fireplace HEATED that room!! The property was quiet, the reception, warm and friendly.

My wife and I had one night left of our San Francisco & Carmel adventure. We decided to stay somewhere near the coast but outside SF before going to the airport for home. We found Rio Vista on a holiday booking site. What a great place to stay. Lovely house with an interesting history behind it, and a lovely comfortable room. The door key was fun and interesting with a code rather than a key or card. But pleased I hadn’t had too much to drink… as I’m sure I’d be sleeping in the hall. As great as the room and house was, I’m sure it would be even better if there was a breakfast room too. But though we found somewhere nearby on the sea front, I’d liked to have eaten at the house. Other than that, we enjoyed our short stay. Thank you

Overall good experience. Friendly and helpful checkin. Room was freezing and couldn’t get the fireplace to work, but they had a space heater that did the trick. Bathroom smelled a hint musty. Shower water was hot and had good pressure. Vehicle noise was a little bothersome in our room since it was close to the intersection. Frequent vehicle honking and engine revving. Small homeless camp on the walking route to downtown. Not the best neighborhood.

The room was small and highly overpriced the amenities were next to none and the room I was in wasn't even in the main building it was an annex building next door there was not even laundry facilities and the staff was rude not to mention profiling myself and my plus one.

Our room we reserved was given away, and the shower drain was clogged up and filled up the whole shower every time it was used.

If you have to stay in Santa Cruz, this tastefully modernized old Victorian house with its friendly, helpful staff will offer a little glimmer of hope that western civilization is not, after all, circling the drain. All rooms are different, and clean, though as other reviews have noted, room 7 is suffering from some deferred maintenance (surely it cant be that hard to paint a wall.) No breakfast, but coffee and water on demand.

I love staying here. The mansion is gorgeous, the rooms are cute and the staff is wonderful. Makes for a very comfortable stay. It does get a little loud (traffic- walking and vehicles), but nothing earplugs wouldn’t help if you’re sensitive to it.

Very old building but very clean everything worked in the room and liked didn't need keys for property's doors

Everything was superb we will definitly stay here agian walking distance to boardwalk wharf and downtown
