The room was comfortable and a good size, the hotel was new and the staff was friendly.
The hotel is located next to Road 1, but it is not noisy. It is very close to UCSC and almost at the foot of the mountain. Many students and parents choose it.

Hotels like this Fairfield one are hitting a new LOW. I just received a bill where they charged me to pay with my credit card. Of course, NO ONE told me about this at check-in. If I had known, I would have given them a bag of quarters. I don't know if this is an issue across Marriott group hotels, or it's just that this hotel's owner/operator is particularly dishonest. If they can behave this badly on something like this, then it's clear the hotel should be avoided as a matter of principle. Caveat Emptor!

We had 50 people, about 25 rooms, occupied for a hiking group. The breakfast buffet was nice every morning with lots of selection. But the pool & Jaccuzi were closed all 5 days. Every day they did not have an update on fixing it. It also is not reported as closed on the website. We also had no hot water in several rooms one afternoon. Location was very North of town and ubers were a minimum of $11/ride to wharf area. Friends stayed at same hotel 2-3 weeks earlier to preview the hikes and pool was not usable then. If I'd known, I would have changed hotels. After a long hike we were looking forward to a jaccuzi.

As of January 2024, it seems this hotel has been built or renovated in near past. The corridors are big, rooms are good. One can get two queen beds.
I find reception and breakfast staff to be helpful. There seems enough parking.
