Hotel Riu Funana - All Inclusive

Just got back and had a lovely time at this hotel. We checked in on the rui app however didn't notice much difference at check in because of this. Rooms are a good size and bigger than others I have stayed in at cape verde. The hotel shares the water slide park and kids pools and some of the spa services and also the toilet off the beach and that's about it with Rui Palace hotel. However Rui Palace being and adult only they get to come over to our side for the nights entertainment etc. As we were a couple the pool could get quite busy so next time I would stay at the Palace as the hotels are mirrors of each other. The walk to Santa Maria Town is really close if you go the short way which is via the water park. Don't walk along the beach as it will take you forever over hot sand. On way to beach usual local tour sellers who calm down after the initial pitch and seeing our pale faces but does get a bit boring hello hello hello where you from.Always found the food in cape verde plentiful but lacking great taste. Where as in Tunisia the food just blew my mind even the cakes. You will be fine and water is always topped up in the rooms. The mosquitos love me so you have to be sensible and spray yourselves with deet spray all over and never have door wide open at night and stay wrapped in the bed. Not many around but only takes a couple of them. Saw some real sights with people are bitten round the bottom if the legs however I only got 3 bites in 11 days just being sensible. Yes the hotel shows some wear and tear but the showers are great and powerful no issues with the shower gels nice quality. The balcony have no lights at night so unless you take a torch or use the light from the room it's pitch black. No issue with staff or anyone all doing their best so try and tip them if and when you can. Go easy on them. Drinks were fine and the beer is nice. Yes it's poor and looks like people work but the tour boats and jet skys etc are owned by others and the locals work for these company's. Local currency however they accept euros and as a tourist you will come across most things costing the same if not more than if you were in Europe. No way a local would pay 14 euros for a meal in town excluding drinks but you won't tend to see the local priced options unless you search it out. You will see the guy with the monkey where you can get a picture with the monkey. I have mixed feelings however what do I know about this both benefit from each other and I'm sure the owner looks after his asset.Good mix of nationalitys weather was great. Any horror stories are just that. Never had any trouble only once was I offered a tour from a local in town however nothing is free I found so if anyone wants to show you round or take you here or their when you never asked then don't go or expect to pay for it. Taxis yep never bothered with them but no issues people using them all the time. Def go on the adult only catermaran tour through tui. Don't do the local offering just the

We liked this place and could not see why people complained . Short distance from the airport and a walk from the town We booked in beforehand using the rui app, so check-in was fast. It's a handy thing to download. hotel tax worked out to be £43.19 two weeks two adults We had block 9 room 9049 near the pool area but not far from everything The rooms were really nice, not too formal, an African decor. All that was promised The shampoo and handwash were of good quality Rooms cleaned every day unless we said no, The rui app has a lot on it, so you can order an insect spray or a restaurant booking, or you can use the helpful reception desk Restaurants pool or main and three bookable restaurants all very nice the spots bar had 24hr food burgers and hot dogs The two themed nights were great. A lot of work went into them The night club dj could have been better. Boom boom is ok, but he needed to read the age of the crowd. 70s 80s would have gone down well We could always get a sun bed in the pool area or on the beach. The staff were always available and happy to help we liked the outside acts they were an alternative to the animation team. All in all, we like this hotel it was in a style we would expect in this part of the world. We will return again unless they revamp the hotel like the other hotels.its a good family hotel at the moment The only problem we had was with the room safe. The thing would not open in the morning and had to wait until 19.00 for a manager to open it. The manager came at 19.20hrs, and it was a quick fix( Batteries). I asked, "What if i needed my passport for travel that morning? Or what would have happened? I was informed a manager would have been aviable then A lot of other guests had told me they had the same problem

This hotel is very nice and the rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff are absolutely amazing and always have a smile on their faces. It’s a little dated but you forget about that as the staff are so amazing. Yes I would return without a doubt.

Hotel is dated and needs some TLC, rooms were clean as in bedding towels and toilet and shower but room felt damp clothing hanging up felt damp and there was a damp smell in the room.. Nice walk to the beach although a bit intimidating having to keep telling the tour people to leave us alone was a constant battle. No toilet block near the beach so you had to do a walk back to the hotel grounds and again pass the tour people.. Food not brilliant very much the same every night. Couldn't fault the staff all were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is certainly not a 5* it's a 3* and that's being generous heard of several people being ill with upset stomach my husband being one and I was sick on our last day. Entertainment was good a lot of effort went into the acts every night overall its was a nice holiday but unfortunately we will not be returning.. The best part was the fantastic day trip v.i.p to sal..blue eye..saltlake..that was incredible.

I have to agree with everything that the person Hugh from glasgow has written ! Still here 3/4 days to go it can’t come fast enough to get out of this hotel . EVERYTHING HUGH has said is true . Unfortunately we have cockroaches that have come to join us in the room and have had wee lizards the lizard I can cope with . Room damp and has musty smell. Food same everyday . Also partner ill for days green watery Diahorea was meant to be recovery holiday for him after having 3/4 of his lung taken away from cancer . Hotel answer to the problems is move to higher floored room which isn’t possible due to his health problem out of breath etc . The room open wardrobe with beads covering clothing they all feel damp . It can’t comment on the alcohol due to being a friend of Bill W .

Excellent holiday,food good,staff great,place spotless although there is a planned layout of the hotel which has two swimming pools on it which is misleading,only one pool belongs to funana as we found out to our embarrassment when we were asked to leave the other one,otherwise no complaints excellent holiday and would certainly recommend it to anyone and would definitely go back
