You have to help yourself ! To no food Sorry to say not a very good experience

Stayed here for one night on our way south and were delighted with our stay. The hotel is lovely to look at on the outside and our room was huge with a superking bed which was very comfy. Staff were very nice and the food was fantastic with generous portions. Will definately be staying here again when in the area

The place is very clean and well kept and most of the staff were friendly. Unfortunately our waitress (the older lady) was quite rude. Upon ordering drinks my partner asked for coke with no ice then changed his mind immediately and asked for blackcurrant and lemonade with a little bit of ice. The waitress said "what?! What's the difference between having I've in one but not the other" She completely caught him off guard and he just looked really sheepish and said "I don't know sorry" she said "just seems abit stupid to me" ...... extremely rude and unprofessional. Why does it matter to her if he does or doesn't have ice in his drink?! We ordered the meat duo dinners. The meat was nice. The gravy was terrible. Completely see through and only a dribble of it. Had to ask for another jug. The meal as a whole was completely bland and I find it unusual that there's no mash on what is essentially a roast dinner. We had no table check to ask if the food was okay. We were finished for roughly 15 minutes and nobody had come to clear or plates so eventually we stood up and walked to the bar to ask if we could pay our bill. Guy serving at the bar was great and seen to our bill straight away. Very polite and helpful with sorting that promptly. I'd have probably given 3 stars for the food (it was hot and cooked to a reasonable standard just plain and really lacking all round) however I'm giving it a 1 star because we were made to feel uncomfortable. The waitress even snapped at my partner for asking for mint sauce when we ordered our food saying "you can't order that yet, you have to wait til the foods here" I worked in the service industry in a very well established restaurant for over 7 years so I'm fully aware of the basic level of table manners needed when serving guests. We were nothing but polite during our visit but we won't be back.

Brilliant hotel. We love staying here, when we go to Cartmel Races. Location is good for getting to and from the track. Staff are very friendly and go out of their way to welcome you. Check in is fast and straightforward. Rooms are clean and beds very comfy. The showers are great!! Complimentary toiletries have a lovely smell and are very good.

The hotel was fabulous for what we needed. Great for a family on the ourskirts of the lakes. Only 25 minutes by car to Ambleside. Staff were very helpful and couldnt do enough to help. Restaurant was lovely! Smaller portions are still huge, great value for money. We stayed in a deluxe doubke and had ample room for the three of us and a travel cot. Little one had lots of room to explore

This is an excellent hotel, well located for visiting the Lake District. My wife and I had visited this hotel many years ago and were very pleasantly surprised by the changes made over that time. The first thing that strikes you is the high standard of furnishing in the reception area which continues in the bedrooms. The staff are very pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. We were there for five nights and there were sufficient choices in the menu for us not to have repeat selections.

The staff are friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was comfortable - particularly the bed - and everything worked as it should. There is plenty of room in the car park. The breakfast was excellent with a fine choice of lovely treats. The hot food was freshly cooked.

We stayed one night on our way up to Scotland so being conveniently located a few miles from the motorway was helful. There was a warm welcome at reception and our room was a good size with a large, comfortable bed and a well equipped bathroom. We had dinner in the restaurant where the service was attentive and the menu had a range of attractive options. Our food was excellent with lovely presentation. Breakfast the next morning was straight forward with a reasonable selection. Overall the hotel had a stylish feel with obvious care and attention being paid to the rooms, the facilities and the bar/dinner menu, creating an all round pleasant experience. Will definitely stay at Crooklands again if we are in the area.
