This is an excellent place to start your trip in Shanghai, the only issue is it feels more like a bathhouse with hotel rooms than a hotel with a bathhouse. The staff don't seem to have clear instructions for serving hotel guests specifically; our key cards were blocked the next day and we had to get them re-programmed. They also demanded immediate payment after we left the spa area, even though it would have been more appropriate at check-out.

Serious protest! Shanghai Hongqiao Qushui Lanting severely lacks even the most basic hotel facilities! For a hotel that claims to offer accommodation, it's astonishing that fundamental amenities like luggage racks, wardrobes, hangers, and bathrobes are completely missing. The room is tiny and cramped, making for an extremely poor experience. Even more outrageous, for a hotel converted from a bathhouse, they can't even provide hot water reliably. Washing up and showering is a total gamble, which completely violates the most basic service standards for a hotel. You're repeatedly interrogated and forced to verify your room card every time you enter or exit. The management is chaotic, and the service attitude is terrible. The high price of 1398 RMB is absolutely not justified. Seriously avoid this place, I strongly do not recommend it! Even the Trip.com concierge wasn't honest about the service. I don't recommend anyone stay at this hotel.

Absolutely not worth the money! My friend and I came specifically for the spa and the much-hyped food, of course. We each booked a room with breakfast. Plus, we paid 13,500 rubles each for 12 hours at the spa. On top of that, they charge a 1500 yuan deposit per day of stay! By the way, none of the other three hotels we stayed at in China required a deposit. The rooms themselves are decent, but overall, the whole experience wasn't worth the price. The 'spa' itself consists of one sauna, one hammam, a hot tub with boiling water, and baths with equally hot water. Massages are available, but they're extra and quite expensive. So, we focused on the food. Of course, there was a huge variety: the highly publicized caviar, lobsters, scallops, jamon, a machine with four types of wine, and a ton of other things. But the caviar ran out quickly and wasn't refilled during our 12-hour stay, even though the waiter said it should be replenished until 2:30 AM, and then the selection changes for breakfast, which is served in the same place. As we were leaving the spa, an employee, naturally using a translator, accused us of taking some of the creams that are publicly available there. This was despite the fact that all the jars were practically empty by 10 PM. After a brief argument and accusations, my friend wrote to her, essentially saying, 'There are Chinese women here with us, why aren't you accusing them of stealing some cream? This is ******.' She immediately backed off after that. All in all, a very unpleasant impression was left. I don't recommend this place because it's unjustifiably expensive!

If you're on a business trip, definitely avoid this place. Otherwise, you'll be paying to suffer. You can't access the leisure area downstairs, and it gets noisy at night. The room layout is also quite odd. I strongly object to the platform not mentioning that there's a bathhouse downstairs; it should be clearly labeled what kind of hotel this is. The service staff were generally okay.

Amazing service, they were really nice to us and even helped us contact Chinese people because we can’t speak it.

I stayed in this hotel and precontacted them several times beforehand to get more information. Unfortunately, I never received a reply. When I arrived, nobody spoke English and nobody could properly explain basic things to me, such as breakfast times etc. The spa is about 1300-1500 RMB extra. If you are travelling from overseas it's impossible to find information there. I inquired about pricing and was therefore a bit unpleasantly surpised it was that much extra still. In terms of spa facilities, it's a bit limited. One type of sauna, a very basic steam room and some hot baths. I was expecting more of it. I think most people come here for the unlimited food, but that was less of interest to me. Treatments are also rather expensive. It's a beautiful hotel and the staff is very professional. As a European it's almost annoying that they're like Velcro on you, especially cause they don't understand you.

I would like to firstly make it very clear that booking a hotel room (at a fairly high rate) does NOT grant you automatic access to the spa facility. That is an additional £120 for 12 hours (and NOT including any treatments). The access is to one steam room, one wet steam room and some bath tubs. The other access is to unlimited snacks and then unlimited food at designated times. You also get access to toiletries and complimentary pyjamas. So I paid double what I was expecting because I could not refund the hotel due to trips cancellation policy would mean I would get less than 10% back. So I had to keep it. I would say the cost of the spa isn’t really worth it unless you can eat ALOT of food to make up the cost if you went out and had the amount I had. It’s an interesting experience but I would say it isn’t worth the cost of the room and the spa access. The staff also weren’t very accommodating to this mixup at all. I personally wouldn’t recommend it unless you are happy to pay over what is fair and just got for the experience.

Everything was good overall, but the room rate wasn't great value for money!
