No reasons was given when I asked, except repeatedly being told "instructions was given to shut the curtains". I didn't wish to prolong a silly situation, so I hesitantly comply. I felt like I was in North Korea for a while, and I didn't know what the punishment would have been for disobeying such "instructions". This made the room really dark, and I had to turn on the room lights.
