This is a lovely place for meal in Shepton Mallet. There was a nice choice of options on the menu including children's meals. Our food was delicious. Ken the owner was very friendly and looked after us. Pub and restaurant in old thatched roof cottage. On the edge of town but was easy walk from town and worth the walk. Would highly recommend.

Stopped here for lunch at 13.50pm to be told they weren’t serving food. Website says lunch is available until 14.30pm. Was told the website was wrong and out of date?? Staff obviously didn’t want to interrupt their free time by serving customers. Not surprised that it was quiet.

This is a great looking place inside and out. We had a family visit at lunchtime. The menu was limited with a few items that were not available. We had four adults and two children with us. The food was disappointing we ordered two rump steaks at £24 each. On the plate was the steak one mushroom one tomato and a few chips. Not really very appetising. The kids had sausage chips and beans that were ok. A curry and a burger were also ordered that were both just about ok. This place has so much potential as it’s a lovely old building. Just a bit disappointing.

I have never encountered such rudeness. When asked why a friend was not being served at 8.55 on a Thursday evening, I was told the barmaid wanted to get home. I asked another person behind the bar why this was allowed to happen and promptly got told to F… off. Our group of 20 will not resume our weekly get together there again, we have changed pubs.

Came here for a meal recently as it has always been a firm favourite. Sadly, this is no longer the case! Poor menu, poor quality food, some ales and beers unavailable at the pumps, meals unavailable from the menu… even basic essential foodstuffs such as butter, mayonnaise etc not available! Two of the friendly bar staff that were working here over Christmas trying to keep the place ticking over have since left! The pub is lacking in any kind of management. Such a shame.

We chose The Thatched Cottage Inn for a family member’s wake which is obviously a distressing time, but Ken was great throughout the whole process of organising it. The food was lovely, there was a nice area for the family and guests to spend their time there with no hassle or time limits and nothing was too much trouble. Some family from further afield chose to stay for a couple of nights there and they spoke very highly of the accommodation. There’s also a lovely, well stocked bar area (look out for the sparkly vodka bottle if you’re a football fan). Overall, couldn’t fault this place and will definitely come back for some drinks or a meal another time. Huge thanks to Ken and the team.

Below average. In dire need of some TLC and updating along with obvious end of season staff burn out I can not recommend this establishment. Most of the fixtures and fittings in the bathroom didn't work properly and there was a lot of mould in the bath grouting. We had the misfortune to book during the hottest week of the season. The main window opened onto the beer garden and busy main road junction that made it impossible to have the window open over night. There was a fan heater that didn't work so not sure if it blew cold air or not. There is a very high (non opening) window, lovely feature, but no window covering and consequently lit up the room from far too early. The bed although lovely and comfortable and a good size creaked at the very slightest movement. Tired and chipped painted furniture needs a revamp along with all the fixtures. The hot water is dangerously hot. The breakfasts were average and underwhelming. Little choice and no quality, certainly not local produce. Sloppy insipid scrambled eggs and poor quality sausages. Judging by the fact that on our second morning we had to wait for the Tesco delivery to be dropped off before we could order I would take a guess the local produce is, at best, Tesco value range! All in all we were pleased to be leaving after 3 nights - absolutely exhausted from lack of sleep.

We stopped here for a meal after visiting the Shepton Mallet Prison and sadly it was pretty rubbish. We downloaded the menu before we got there because we have a child with ARFID and yet when we got there we were given a paper menu with a totally different set of food which was much higher in price, even those items that were the same as the menu on the Internet. We ordered 2 burger and chips and a portion of chips for our child and this took nearly 30 minutes to arrive. When the food did arrive it was exceptionally disappointing. The burgers were severely overcooked and dry, there was no burger relish on either of the burgers as advertised on the paper menu, the rolls were really cold like they had just come out of the freezer. My child's chips were just plonked on the table in a wire basket, no plate. It was like they have never cooked and served food before. The fries were over cooked and were like the scraps that you get from the bottom of the bag. We definitely won't eat here again.

Met with four friends for lunch. Two had to send their bean stew back as hardly edible with no taste and definitely not as described. Aubergine was not cooked properly either So they ordered the veg curry as something different but again it came out with huge lumps of chewy aubergine so all that had changed was the colour of the sauce which had more taste.... The lemon pudding was on the menu with a shortbread biscuit and when the waitress was questioned why no biscuit came with it she said they had run out and didn't offer the diner an alternative... £8 3 of us had the crab/fish cakes which were cooked well but far too salty. (Chips were nice). Tea was served afterwards with the teabag bunged in a small cup no teaspoons/teapot, hot water or bowl to remove the tea bag at £2.50, so it was too strong. We asked to talk to the chef and we assumed it was him that rushed past us at the end of our meal not looking in our direction but in a great hurry to get past us. The waitress was very nice but we don't think she was trained correctly. Sadly we won't be meeting there again -
