Old Taverna Sorrentina

Wanted to stay in Sorrento at Christmas, made contact with Guglielmo Gargiulo at Old Taverna Sorrentina. Was greated very warmly by William and Maria, the b n b was stunning. Very old Italian, made you feel you were in old Italy, was a stunning property. Easy to find and very central, down what is called the drains. Found a lovely cheap cafe, where we went for coffee amd cornetto (croissant) which only cost 9 euro for 2 and drinks. Cant wait to go back, highly recommend, especially if you want to see old italy.

Right in the heart of Sorrento this is a really quaint and unique property with rooms owned by a wider family group over two floors above the family restaurant and gelato. We stayed in the Imperial Suite run by William and Maria (who run the cookery school) Room was clean and beautifully furnished with antique items. There is a fridge and cooking facilities available if wanted and certainly the fridge was useful. Maria or her team were in everyday to clean and change towels etc and on hand to help with any queries or guidance on local facilities etc.

We have just spent 4 nights in Sorrento at the Old Taverna Sorrentina staying in the Antica Sorrento Suite. What a room!! Amazing ceiling artworks and lovely old classical furniture all around the room. Big double doors out onto small balconies overlooking the narrow pedestrian street below. We absolutely loved the B&B. We are not the type who go for all modern luxury hotels as we find them miserable soulless boxes but if you prefer the more traditional classical accommodation full of character then this has to be it! Maria was such a wonderful host and the room was always spotless and beautifully prepared. The bathroom was more than adequate with a rather impressive shower unit. There is a lift to take you from street level to the floor. The bed in the Antica Suite was huge and very comfortable, there is plenty of places to hang and store your clothes and valuables, we didnt find a safe, but we improvised using some of the great decorative furniture and trinkets in the room. The whole experience was wonderful. We were very sad to have to leave. I booked it directly using their whatsapp contact and dealt with William who would leave me voice messages (when he was able) and answer all of my (many) queries prior to arrival in a very courteous relaxed and helpful way. I was very much looking forward to meeting my new Italian Whatsapp friend but unfortunately as William is a very busy man, we were unable to meet in person due to his many duties and commitments (the cows were calving) on their family farm out of town. Maria his wife was very welcoming and helpful and a big Grazia and Ciao to the restaurant staff who made us feel very welcome and made us laugh on both occasions we had dinner at the restaurant below which is also fantastic food and service. We wish you all the best for the future. Grazia and Ciao for now. We will be back!

This property is so beautiful and unique. We all felt like royalty and were treated so by our host. It is a wonderful neighborhood for shopping, dining and people watching. A great place to stay for a few days or much longer as the rooms felt like a home, albeit a very luxurious one. A must for those who appreciate find surroundings.

I felt like I’m home, good to family trip,they don’t have a front desk but I wrote to the property one day before,they answered really fast,when I reached the property somebody was waiting for us and gave keys and instructions. The family own a gelato and coffee place and also a restaurant downstairs. Both really good. Maria is awesome and lovely.Really good location!!!
