I’ve lived in and visited Portsmouth many times over the last 30+ years but never stayed at the iconic looking Queens Hotel but yesterday found myself there for one night after a last minute booking. Whilst I expect to pay more because it was very last minute, I didn’t expect such a tiny room overlooking a central quad with a sash window that didn’t open properly so it was boiling hot and no aircon. The fittings and paint work were tired and dated, and my £175 didn’t even include breakfast. It really felt like a case of charging the earth then not reinvesting any of it to make the rooms nice. Such a shame

Lovely public areas, good service particularly in Duke's Bar. They do need to crack on and finish the refurbishment. Our room was very tired, along a very dark, depressing corridor. Not quite sure why some of the hotel's garden furniture seemed to have been thrown onto a neighboring property, clearing visible from our room. Also breakfast pricing is simply silly.

We had a company dinner outside on the terrace. Excellent pizzas served and attentive waiters taking and delivering drinks for the evening. Seating is very comfortable and great for parties. They even didn't mind the balloons we had brought our for our MD!

The Queens Hotel has always had a special meaning for my wife and I. Stayed there on our wedding night in 1985. And went back every anniversary for a few years ( place did deteriorate but prices went up). Been back many times since, sometimes for dinner, sometimes just for drinks. Also for New Year’s Eve party. Love the place 🤗

Old style, old school, immaculate staff manners....olde worlde but a fantastic piece of history and a lot of money spent on it. Fantastic dining room, great food and also a nice separate lounge. Yes, pay a little bit more but not a lot more and have a great stay, buy nice or buy twice...one great stay is better than two bad ones.

You just walk into the Queens hotel and know its going to be a great place to stay. Friendly staff welcome you and the rooms are well laid out, sumptious beds, all the in room facilities you could want including ironing boards, hair dryers etc. The food here is fantastic as well and what with a great outlook close to the beach what's not to like about the Queens hotel

We booked 3 double rooms with sea view, they only had two, but they did have executive doubles with a sea view but would cost £100 per night more. We decided to treat my daughter and her partner as it was his birthday. We arranged it so they would arrive first and be all excited to see this room that had cost almost £250 per night, social function rate, did they get the excitement “no” they had put them a small dingy room, a room smaller than even ours, same furniture but crammed in. Apparently their large superior is smaller than their standard double. They make the excuse we asked for then to be together, we didn't, we asked for their availability for s 3rd room. They moved her to the room after complaining, to the room we thought we had booked and called it an upgrade. The moment for her had been lost, no apology at the time nothing. This was his reply from their general manager I am sorry to hear that your daughter didn’t get the “wow” moment you expected for her. As James has highlighted the room she was given was as booked a superior seaview and was the only one on the third floor near the 2 double standards with baths as requested, we do not have many room baths so this was the best option to meet your requests. The booking request for baths was just for the double standard rooms. I appreciate you may not agree with our standardisation of rooms but it is marked as a superior because of the décor and furnishings quality of bed etc. The room she was upgraded to and the one you feel you had booked is a large superior seaview as James has sent over to you already with the normal rates that would be charged. Don't assume you are getting what you pay for, they can call their rooms anything, surely it's their size and amenities that count. If a room is smaller or the same size as a basic double, same furniture as a basic double, bed same as a basic double then it's a basic double, but according to queens General Manager NO!!!! Just to mention that the true cost that that “upgrade was £289 apparently, but we had a special place function rate and still paid £250, so was this really an upgrade, I think not!!!giving you what you had already paid for is no compensation for getting it wrong in the first place. Poor customer service

Absolutely amazing staff!! I had to write a review to say how delighted I was with the experience. The room was incredible but that wasn't the best bit! I left something of immense sentimental value in my room and the housekeeping staff found it and returned it to me really promptly. The staff here showed exceptional integrity and honesty.
