Old fashioned inn, can’t beat ocean view &ocean-front yard w fire pits & chairs. No WIFI in rooms, older decor & linens. Nice people. No amenities. No AC but fine as ocean breeze & screeened windows

Very disappointing. As soon as you walk in you smell mildew. This property needs a lot of upgrades, it had been neglected for years. The owners is spending money on restoring the model ships on display, they need to look at their property. The rooms are not very clean and the bath rooms are disgusting. I saw a post from someone that said this is the cleanest place they stayed at, either this is a person who does not travel much or it was written by the owners. They serve donuts in the morning, they are stale pre- packaged donuts from a -7-11. The staff is very nice, thank you.

Another stay at The Moorings Inn during The Acadia Birding Festival. This is an old building with lots of unexpected and unusual items, decor and eccentricities. The floors creak, the paint peels and the style is dated but the views are incredible. If you are looking for something sleek and modern, go elsewhere, this is not for you! We love it for all the quirkiness. It's different. It has a lovely grassy yard for enjoying the unparalleled views of the inlet, hills beyond, sunrise, birds and boats coming and going about their business. Adirondack chairs, fire pits, a grill, decks and a warm welcome are what you will find here. Overlook the weird bathrooms and dated furniture and get outside. The inn is cluttered with "stuff" but it is always clean. There is a common room for sitting, reading, having a cup of coffee and enjoying in views on inclement days. Gil, the manager, is always friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. Yes, The Moorings Inn is old, worn and full of personality- - That's the point!

This is an old inn with all the quirks you would love in anything this vintage. The location is awesome with incredible views of the harbor. The decor is eclectic but too crowded with "stuff" leaving little room to move around. We have been there twice and both times there have been issues with bathroom facilities. The Spindrift is a waterfront suite with a lovely balcony but the bathroom has no door and is in the sitting room! Absolutely no privacy and that was a big problem for us. So if your spouse is seated in the wingback chair reading and you are using the toilet you are facing each other with no privacy. I love the inn but hate the bathrooms. Gil the manager is amazing and extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming. He is one of the reasons we are going back again next year with a different room and private bath. My advice: when choosing a room ask about the bathroom set up.

This is such a great place to stay. We stayed in the pilot house which was clean comfortable and quaint. We had our own little screened porch with a view of the boats moored in the harbor. There is a working shipwright next door as well as the Hinckley Yacht builders. It’s enough removed from Bar Harbor/Acadia that traffic wasn’t bad, but just about 25 minute drive. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat.

We loved our stay at the Moorings! We stayed in the Topside room in the Lookout cabin and had a picture perfect view of the harbor. The bed was very comfortable. My husband and I were there on our honeymoon. We caught the most beautiful deep purple sunset sitting out on the deck with a bottle of wine on our second night. For waterfront views and privacy, this is the perfect spot.

I’m torn; I had an absolutely fabulous stay at The Moorings (and we are already planning to go back next year!), BUT I also want South West Harbor to stay the peaceful slice of natural perfection it is instead of getting as popular/touristy as Bar Harbor! So stay at The Moorings, but don’t tell anybody 😂. Seriously, Gill and the rest of the team there do a great job, the bed is super comfy, and the views are stunning! My husband and I were there for a week for our honeymoon, and I spent every morning sitting on our little porch reading, and listening to the birds, the gentle lapping of waves on the shoreline, and the occasional clang from a boat. Ultimate relaxation! 😊 Go there to enjoy life on the “quiet side” 👍

My fiancé and I stayed here for a couple of nights and immediately fell in love with our experience. We felt like we stepped back in time, and enjoyed the historic nature of this Inn and property. We saw some of the most gorgeous sunrises out on the back lawn, enjoyed each interaction with the knowledgeable and personable host Gill, we loved the antique decor, and even felt that there were more friendly interactions with fellow travelers here than at any other accommodations we've stayed at to date. Our room was quaint, the bed super comfy, and the water pressure in the shower perfect! We would happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone who desires gorgeous views, an historic stay and charming accommodations.

We recently spent 2 nights at the Moorings Inn with our family of 4. It was the perfect Maine experience. Absolutely the best sunsets we saw in all of Maine (and we stayed at 4 different destinations). The grounds were perfect for families and couples alike. Two different firepit areas both with incredible views of the water and islands. The Inn is like a timepiece, wish we had more time to sit in the living room and look at all of the decorations. Location is perfect for many of our favorite hikes like Flying Mountain. It is one block from the Manset dock for the cranberry isles which was a wonderful experience, definitely take bikes! Hosts were welcoming and accommodating and provided us with helpful tips. Only giving 4/5 stars bc the screens weren’t in great condition so we could not leave our windows open at night because of mosquitoes. Loved our experience at Moorings Inn and will absolutely be back!
