Hill Top Motel

Our accommodations in New Jersey fell through and we were looking for something quick that had decent reviews. We chose this motel because people said it was really nice. Unfortunately, we didn’t pay attention to the fact that most of the five star reviews only covered one or two nights. We were there for five. The bed was OK, the fridge worked, the TV was fine, the bathroom worked. My two star review is based on the treatment that I received at what they called the “front desk” and when I say “front desk”, it was nothing more than a ring camera. They don’t want to interact with you. You speak to them through a ring camera so they could be anywhere. It was day three and we needed towels. I went to the ring camera and asked them for what we needed. The person I spoke to was extremely rude. Not only did they tell me I was on my own for towels, they threatened to cancel my reservation because I asked for towels. I am not sure how they got from. “Hey, I need towels” to “We’re just gonna cancel your reservation.” The ring camera person told me that the cleaning staff would give me new towels on Friday , it was Wednesday. Friday came and went, no new towels, Saturday and Sunday came and went, no new towels. we had to go to Walmart and buy new towels . If you are staying for longer than one or two nights and expect any kind of customer service, forget it. This is the no tell Motel. Don’t tell them you need customer service or towels or they will threaten you with cancellation. Or better yet, don’t give them your money and keep on driving.

Parking was easy, room clean, problem was very noisy neighbors in room adjoining or just below me. I needed early sleep to get up at 5am. These people were talking loud, laughing, yelling until 11:30pm, then the tv stayed on loud the rest of the night. It sounded like it was right in my room, maybe they passed out and left it on. It would have helped if the ac/heat was able to leave a constant fan on to muffle the noise but this setting is not avaliable. I got zero sleep, terrible night, not happy.

Parking was good, ac/heat was a window unit, no fan only circulation or constant fan option. There are no staff, all remote, no key, just keypad code to get in room, battery was low on my room, took several timesto finally get in room. There is also no deadlock or security lock to secure the door once your inside the room.

This little motel was a delight. Easy to find, easy to park, and with pre-check in I was able to just go straight to my room. The room was clean and the snacks provided were welcome at the end of a very long day. The heat worked well and I got the room warmed up without any hassle. My only gripe was that there was only one thing blanket on the bed, but it ended up being just fine. I may bring my own if I stay here again, which is likely- I have friends who live in the area.

The room and bathroom were very clean,and the bed was comfortable. I spoke with a woman her name was Lillian who was very helpful, which is a nice touch on customer service. I would recommend the Hilltop motel. Thank you!

⭐☆☆☆☆ One star I booked this motel expecting basic, clean accommodations and unfortunately had a very different experience. Upon arrival, the room had visible roaches, which is completely unacceptable and a serious health concern. This is not a minor inconvenience, it made the room uninhabitable. I contacted the booking platform immediately, but the property was unresponsive and unwilling to take accountability for the condition of the room. Cleanliness is the bare minimum, and this stay did not meet even that standard. I would strongly advise others to look elsewhere. I would not stay here again.

We chose this listing because it was advertised as non-smoking and safe, which was important for our family. That was not our experience. On the second night, the room smelled of cigarette smoke throughout the sleeping area. Around 1:44 AM, loud verbal altercations began in the adjacent unit and continued for hours. The host did not respond when we reported the issue during the stay. We checked out early and asked for a refund of unused nights, which she refused and stated that "We cannot force people to behave appropriately. Even the cops can’t." So we made a formal complaint to Airbnb and were issued a partial refund. We were not refunded for all unused nights, so be aware. Also be aware of potential retaliatory behavior if you complain. After we escalated the request for refund through AirBNB proper, the host claimed we caused a noise issue, which was never raised during the stay. Guests who need a truly non-smoking, quiet, and well-managed environment, especially families and light sleepers, should proceed with caution.
