Augill Castle

We were very excited to be staying in a castle, but unfortunately it did not quite meet up to expectations. Very quirky and eclectic. Immaculately clean. Really lovely staff. Very comfortable bed and good shower. However, there was mould in the bathroom, the room door (directly onto outside) didn’t close properly, there were cracks in the windows, the sink was very close to the toilet so had to manoeuvre to use it despite it being a large bathroom. The evening menu is interesting, as mentioned on the website, they offer a selection of small plates. The ravioli and the prawn cocktail were nice, a bit small but pleasant enough. The rest were just ok. Breakfast - cereals and toast with jam etc and cooked breakfast were all offered. The sausage was inedible and the poached egg tasted like it had been pre-cooked days ago. not a perfect stay unfortunately and I felt that the price was high for what we got which is a shame.

A five star experience without any hesitation! For us, our weekend in a castle could not have been better. The castle is quite simply beautiful, being furnished cleverly (and with an artistic eye) with antique finds and family heirlooms which give it personality and something to photograph at every turn. Our rooms were so comfortable and tastefully furnished with luxurious toiletries in the bathrooms. The service was spot on. Unintrusive but attentive, which meant that we could relax and chat, and chat some more without feeling that we were in the way or being overheard. We breakfasted like kings and loved the small plates evening menu which enabled us to try lots of different dishes, all perfectly cooked. The owners and staff couldn’t do enough for us. This really was the perfect place for a celebration or few nights away with family or friends. We’ll be back for sure!

A great place to be relaxed and leave the hustle and bustle behind. Full of history, great staff and wonderful food, afternoon tea looked amazing too.The room we stayed in was beautiful, comfortable and large. We highly recommend a visit . Great places to visit around the area too.

This is quite possibly the best place I’ve ever stayed. The location is incredible- it was easy to find but it feels like it’s in a different little world. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The castle is fantastic inside- it still feels very much like a castle without it being dilapidated and musty. Just the right amount of modernisation. So many beautiful features! The room was just perfect, and the bathroom!! The food was incredible, and two of us were happily full for a very reasonable price. It was tasty and beautifully presented. Staff were available whenever you needed them, and were kind and friendly, but weren’t overly pushy, which I find perfect! We will definitely be returning in future and I recommend this experience to anyone.

Went to Augill Castle for afternoon tea and I have to say it was superb. The place is unique in its interior and decor & you are made to feel really welcome. The matre de was extremely friendly, helpful and attentive, asking if we wanted more tea etc. The hotel has 15 rooms & caters for weddings etc & it would be a great venue 👍. All in all a really lovely place to enjoy afternoon tea & you can stay if you want, also the restaurant menu looks superb 👍

Spent a great long weekend to celebrate a special birthday. Great location, authentic castle interior and a wonderful team to look after us. Nothing was too much trouble, special call out to the lovely Jude. His friendly and attentive attitude immediately made us welcome and helped us celebrate in style. Will definitely return again.

Attentive & friendly staff. Three wonderful fireplaces to sit & read by while the rain passes. We had the pleasure to enjoy a well planned out NYE celebration. Super comfortable beds. Location was perfect for a country side retreat. Nearby are breathtaking hikes, historical landmarks and waterfalls.

The castle was all that it should have been. Quaint yet majestic. I loved the details. Our room had a fabulous fire place and great tub- perfect for a windy, winter night. The food was great and the hosts visible enough to meet our needs yet not intrusive. We will be back in better weather to enjoy the stunning grounds.

We had a voucher to use with four days to go and hadn’t really wanted to drive the 50 miles to Augill Castle in winter but it happened to be a glorious snowy afternoon for the scenic trip into the Pennines. Our afternoon tea was delicious which was more savoury than the norm and with Christmasy touches. eg. Turkey and stuffing brioche; Pigs in blankets; Baby Christmas puddings with brandy sauce and much more together with excellent coffee all served by a roaring fire in the beautiful lounge. We hope to go again in the summer. Many thanks must go to the welcoming Jude 🙏.
