It was an expensive cabin in the woods. Our heater was broke and on when we arrived. It took the staff until 11:30 to get the heater shut off. The food was not worth what we paid for it. The staff was friendly.

Shenandoah is a gorgeous national park, and Big Meadows is the perfect place to stay. It's close to wonderful hikes, some of which leave from the Big Meadows property itself. We stayed in cabins with balconies, and couldn't have been happier. The property is very quiet and the rooms are well furnished. Yes, the bathrooms are simple and Wifi is weak outside of the main lodge, but we weren't expecting five-star comfort at a national park lodge! Given the reviews I read in advance, I was worried about what our stay was going to be like, but it was excellent all the way around. (Oh, and the food in the dining room was fantastic.) If I return to Shenandoah NP some day, I would definitely stay here.

If you like a rustic experience -- this is the place to stay. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hot water shower was an initial problem, but it was fixed during the stay. I chose this one because it has easy access to all the trails in the middle of Skyline Drive.

Leave the phone and tablet in the car, grab a beer and a book and treat yourself to some chill time on the patio. Then head out and enjoy the park either driving on Skyline Drive or hitting any of the trails. Close to sunset walk the meadow which at that time will be loaded with deer. Then go to the first overlook past Big Meadows Wayside and enjoy a phenomenal sunset if the weather permits

We had a lovely weekend getaway. The room was clean and comfortable. Beautiful views of the sunset from Black Rock which was a super quick walk from our room. Staying on Sky Line Drive was convenient for all the exploring we wanted to do. We will definitely be back.

Skyline Drive is wonderful. The hiking is beautiful. The views are stunning. Highly recommended. Our room at Big Meadow was fine, but the exteriors and the grounds around the cabins and lodge were not well maintained. We had just come from staying at Blackwater Falls in West Virginia where the state park accommodations and the grounds were significantly better. We didn't stay at Skyland, but we drove through and found it to more attractive and better maintained.

We love staying in the national park. Big Meadows is easy to walk to restaurant and tap room. The rooms are comfortable in the lodge.

The food was excellent--well prepared, surprisingly large quantities and a good selection of options. Unfortunately, the main dining room was quite cool in the evening which meant that I did not enjoy the meal as much as I could have. I noted that the overhead fans were going full force and there was no fire in the fireplace while the outside temperatures were dropping into the 50's and 40's rapidly. Staff in the dining hall and check in were friendly and efficient--a real plus.
