We were assigned a second-floor unit in Independence Hall, which is at the far end of the resort. We didn't mind this location despite the longer walk to the clubhouse and pools. Our balcony faced a wooded area with the golf course beyond, and it wasn't too far to the larger pool across the street at the Commons, also known as Marriott Sequel. The unit was very clean, beautifully furnished, and peaceful throughout our week-long stay. There are a number of activities, most of which are free, and the rest having a minimal participation fee. We enjoyed a wine tasting, ice cream sundae bar, smores by the firepit, etc. We also attended Living History presentations and particularly enjoyed President John Tyler, whom we knew little about. The details of his term in office turned out to be an enthralling story. We spent many pleasant hours at the pool as well as visiting historic sites during our stay. Ford's Colony makes a good base for touring the area unless your GPS keeps directing you to gated entries only accessible to residents. We programmed in the Dominion Memory Care address across the street from the Marriott Ford's Colony entrance, and that solved the problem. We would happily stay here again if we return to Williamsburg.
