The Royal Hotel was wonderful! When we booked a few weeks out, we were emailed that they did not have 1 room for the entire week. So they offered us a 'Creative Booking' and booked us in 3 rooms over the week. That was fine for us. Turned out there was a cancelation so we only had to move rooms once! So, we got to experience the Family Room, and it had loads of room. Small bathroom though with a small stand up shower. Our 2nd room was a Double Deluxe Room. The room was smaller but the bathroom was larger with tub and a view of the Castle from the toilet! The Castle and harbour view was a dream from both rooms! The rooms have tea/coffee service, firm beds and pillows, desk, chair, pant press and iron, wardrobe with a few hangers, hair dryer (mounted in desk drawer), large full mirror, large bath towels, shampoo. The windows in our rooms opened which was a plus for us. We used the heating some of the time. The curtains and pull shade allowed our room to be totally blacked out for sleeping. The staff took care of us everyday! From Reception to Cleaners to Chef, they all made our stay delightful. This hotel has a beautiful staircase leading up to rooms. If you need a lift, the Royal Hotel may not work for you, but staff will carry your cases up and down for you, with a smile (they did for us!). The breakfast in The Boatshed every morning was a treat. You can choose from a menu or go continental. We even asked for milk-in-a-jar to take upstairs for our tea in our room. Need more towels? Sorted. Need anything? Just ask them. Stornoway was fabulous! We flew in, got a taxi to hotel and walked where we needed to go. There is a Co-op just steps away from hotel. This was a plus for us for the small things we needed. Want a Toastie? Coffee? Kobi Java is also just steps away. Go by early and they will set aside a sandwich for you for lunch. We walked to Lew's Castle and had lunch in the Cafe' twice. The streets are narrow and shops are plentiful. We had a lovely time, as a couple that went for a conference at Martins Memorial church. We highly recommend the Royal Hotel.
