Hotel Astoria

Stayed at the Astoria for 1 week in early June 2024. We had booked a lakeview superior room. Lovely room but first floor view was hampered by tall palm trees by the kerbside. The hotel moved us to the 4th floor where the balcony view was absolutely stunning. The room was poorer, a little smaller and outdated but absolutely fine to stay in for the week. Presumably not a superior room but the views more than compensated the downgrade. A better room and the 5th star would have been earned. The hotel staff were very friendly especially the waitors and reception staff. The food was very good - we stayed half board and every evening's meal was great. 4 courses - each night different and usually 3 or 4 choices for each course. I used the pool each morning for a pre-breakfast swim. It was lovely and clean and crystal clear each day. The rooms were serviced each day - the maid service also excellent. The hotel is 5 mins walk from Stresa, the ferry terminal and the train station. The local ferry service was excellent, no need to use the more expensive private ferry services. We had seperate trips to Isola Bella and Madre, which lived up to very high expectations, Villa Taranto was very nice, Parco Pallavicino was within walking distance (20-25min walk) and was beautiful and the mini-zoo/farm lots of fun. Rocca di Angera and Santa Catarina were both unexpectedly good especially if you like art and frescos. For the Borromeo visits you can get a 3-location pass which is cheaper than paying for 3 seperately. Also Isola Bella and Isola Madre are RHS partner gardens - free to RHS members amazingly. I'd highly recommend this Hotel - make sure you opt for a lake view and I'd suggest 3rd floor or higher room and you will have a great time.

A typical Italian art deco hotel in a fantastic location, right on the lake front in the heart of Stresa. Close to all amenities. The hotel is so clean and spotless and the rooms are comfortable and spacious. We had a balcony overlooking the Lago Maggiore. The pool area is lovely and the water is so refreshing without being too cold! I have to say the food at the hotel is superb, particularly the 4 course evening meal, the waiters are attentive and cheerful, especially Our new friend Claudio! We would also like to extend our gratitude to the barman Gianluca for his expert advice and friendly demeanor. In fact all the staff were helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We are sad to be home, but want to thank everyone at Hotel Astoria for such a pleasant holiday. Grazie Mille! An iron and ironing board and tea and coffee making facilities in the room would be an improvement. But over all a fantastic hotel. Rob e Louise.

The hotel is in a perfect location for visiting this beautiful area. Rooms vary greatly but all seem to be comfortable. Lovely sitting area and extremely nice and helpful staff. Wonderful landscaping, Very good breakfast, All in all this is an excellent choice at a reasonable price.

Overall we enjoyed our stay We asked to move rooms as we had noisy neighbours, which they accommodated Staff were friendly Food was good, but did run out of some of the menu choices Room was good. Only bit was shower would occasionally should lose cold water, so wry hot water came out, which was not nice. Assume affected by adjacent rooms use of cold water

The hotel Astoria is just a spectacular hotel, over looking the lake and central for Stresa, we had a balcony view. The staff were amazing and looked & cared for all our comfort and so friendly, having stayed here will be remembered by us for ever. We had a very relaxing time, the food was very high quality and the rooms were spotless, and bedding renewed every other day. This was a much appreciated value for money stay and a must go back, so much to do and see. Highly recommended.
