Holiday Inn Express STUART by IHG

BUGS BUGS BUGS!!! Owners have hijacked this beautiful brand and are running it into the ground! It smelt of mothballs throughout, and when I approached the owners the next day, three of them ganged up to defend their filthy hotel!

We stayed at Holiday Inn Express Stuart for two nights in February and ultimately checked out early due to the totality of issues we experienced. Our original reservation was confirmed under an IHG Employee One Pass rate. The hotel sent an email stating our reservation would be cancelled at midnight if our credit card was not updated. However, the reservation was cancelled less than 10 minutes after that email was sent — despite us actively communicating our arrival time and immediately working to update a compromised card. We were then forced to rebook at a significantly higher rate. During our stay, ownership came directly to our room multiple times raising his voice and arguing with us about basic requests such as towels and assistance with a clogged toilet. This created an uncomfortable and intimidating environment. When our toilet became clogged around 4:45 PM, we were told to retrieve a shared plunger from the lobby and handle it ourselves because housekeeping ended at 1 PM. The plunger was visibly used and uncovered, and we were required to carry it through the elevator to the third floor. This raised obvious sanitation concerns. We also discovered roaches in the room and documented them with photos. Individually, any one of these issues would be concerning. Combined, the premature cancellation in contradiction of written notice, aggressive owner behavior, sanitation risks, and pest presence made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable staying. We are currently working through corporate channels regarding this matter. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this property.

Everything was great at this hotel. No problem at check-in, the room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast bar was good too. The cafe attendant was very good and made sure things were fresh and clean. We were happy with the location being close to the interstate.

Checked in late the night before.At about three in the morning, the hotel lost all power, and we were forced to leave early that morning he next in the dark. Would expect a refund

Need to not have the smoking area right outside the back door. Customers were going in and out all hours of the night keeping us awake. The smoke smell would drift back in the hotel and into our room. Disgusting!

The room was okay, it was comfortable and clean, but the air conditioner was very loud and the hallways smelled of a very strong cleaner and mothballs (why)?! (The smell did seep into the room a bit, thankfully not enough to be unbearable).

Strong irritating smell of mothballs or bug spray in halls but unbearable in rooms. Surprised IHG will allow this, as I got no sleep for $200 almost and left at 3:40 a.m. to drive home, even though I was hoping to sleep and drive the next morning. I am older and not comfortable with having to drive in the middle of night. Asked for call from mgr but didn’t receive one. I would like a full refund, as this is the worst hotel experience of my entire life.

"Free" breakfast consisted of "orange juice" from a machine that looked purple and tasted like water. Pancakes from machine came out raw. The only good thing was the eggs that were cooked fresh amd the potatoes. Seriously lacking a little love on the breakfast side.
