Although we had a very enjoyable stay our overall experience of The Mill Hotel certainly wouldn’t rate 4 stars! Our room was very comfortable but ….. there was no towel rail in the bathroom, nor the bedroom, for hand towels and the big fluffy bath towels. Where do you hang these to dry them to use again? Also the promised complimentary bathroom toiletries amounted to one shower cap, a small bar of washbasin soap (which kept sliding into the washbasin), and fixed wall containers of shower gel & shampoo. We are now moved on to a B&B which has provided: individual bottles of conditioner, shampoo, body wash, hand & body lotion, soap, vanity kit, shower cap, & sewing kit! Now that’s what I call 4 star complementary toiletries! Breakfast was a very odd experience with a self serve buffet breakfast. 1st morning the only eggs on offer were scrambled but they were the worst I’ve ever had - hard, dry, rubbery & inedible! Today they were the same but I asked for fried eggs which were brought to my table. Why was there no sign suggesting eggs could be ordered? Tea was available from hot water flasks - proper tea needs to be from freshly boiled water! Today there were no saucers so all around us were guests running around and sitting at tables with cups - nowhere to put spoons and used teabags! Yesterday and today I had to request tea plates for my toast & croissants - none had been set out. Staff were helpful but seemed unaware what was needed. We ate in the hotel last night but I’m afraid the 4 star hotel served food which was more like 2 star pub grub. My steak which the waitress agreed should be ‘rare’ came ‘medium’! My wife’s sea bass main came smothered in sauce and a side of noodles that simply didn’t work. It’s a real shame because it is a nice hotel but could be much better with obvious much needed improvements. Booking was a real problem probably due to Surya Hotels central booking system. I nearly gave up!
