Not a 4-star resort by any stretch, and the most poorly-maintained room I’ve experienced in the past decade. Our 2-bedroom ocean view suite had rusty fixtures, poorly patched and painted walls, a delaminating bedroom door that wouldn’t close, the phone didn’t work properly, stained table lamps, and another bedroom door that looked like it’d has a head rammed through it before being poorly patched. The tea kettle in the kitchen had black chunks in it, and housekeeping took our towels without replacing them. I’ve not seen a room in this bad of shape in recent memory, and that includes numerous stays in 3rd world countries. When some of these issues were brought to the staff’s attention, they were apathetic and unapologetic, promising to send maintenance teams that never arrived. The food on site was equivalent to the standard you might expect at one of the older United Club airport lounge buffets. Edible, but certainly not good. We didn’t even get Doubletree’s “famous” cookies at check-in, although did when we asked for them the next day. The lack of upkeep continues to the outdoor hotel bar, which has rusted doors and fixtures, making it feel like a shady spot in Central America. The pool and hot tub, which are questionably maintained as well, are off limits after sunset. This is very disappointing to a vacation spot. The views are nice and it’s convenient to have a kitchen in the room. That’s about all I can say that’s good about this place. All of this was particularly disappointing given our stay at the same property last year, which was in a newly-renovated room. What we didn’t know is that the room we had was a “model room” for condos the hotel is selling, and that there are a very small handful of them which are randomly assigned and were fully occupied. So, do NOT expect to get what you see in the pictures online and, if you HAVE to stay here (which I strongly discourage you from doing given the much better options nearby at a similar price point), I suggest you massively lower your expectations in advance of arriving.
