It is THE place in Oman to see green sea turtles lay eggs and young sea turtles crawl to the sea. The high season for turtles (there are indeed dozens of them busy on the beach at the same time) coincides with the extremely hot low season for tourists. During the time (end of April, beginning of May) that we were there, we were lucky to see a handful of turtles per evening/night. In the afternoon, at an empty parking lot and turtle center, we buy our tickets for the evening. The gentleman at the cash register clearly indicated that there was a good chance that we would not be able to see any turtles around 9:00 PM, when the tour would start. Simply because it was low season. We would be in group 2. Cost per person 8 Rial (Almost 20 Euro). We decided to take the chance. Arrived at 8:45 PM in the evening at a crowded parking lot. We understood that there would be 6 (six!!) groups. At 9:15 PM by bus in a group of 25!!! to the beach. The guide explained the rules in English and something about the turtles. Due to the large group it was difficult to follow. We have done these types of tours several times (including Costa Roda, Malaysia and Borneo) and have also often seen sea turtles while diving. But seeing the eggs laid is always something magical. Luckily there was a turtle busy. The intention was to watch in groups of five people. That quickly changed to the entire group of 25!!!!! In our opinion, that is really too massive. And yes, we are also among them and would like to see the turtles lay eggs and are therefore also part of the problem. The guide shines a red flashlight. Photos only with phone and NO flash. After us, group 3 and 4 and 5 also had to go look at the same turtle!!!! That made the time you spent with the turtle very short and the experience with so many people at the start was a bit massive instead of intimate. Just looked at the fluorescent plankton near the surf. The next morning we also bought tickets. Fortunately for 1 group of 10 people. On the beach where we had been in the evening, the tracks of 3 turtles. On the t****th beach there were also the tracks of 3 turtles that had laid eggs and 1 turtle that had gone out and back into the sea. Unfortunately we did not see any turtles in the morning. Is this recommended? Mmm if you have seen turtles before and you are in the off season for turtles, like us, then better not. If you have never seen them or are in the high season for turtles, then definitely do it. The resort itself looks very beautiful and well cared for. Neat toilets, souvenir shop, museum, etc. We did not sleep there (We slept at the nearby Sama Ras Al Jinz Resort). So this review is only about the turtle tour.
