The Ship Inn

We stayed for a night for my birthday and my father in laws birthday and we spent the afternoon in front of the fire which was so cosy and relaxing. We then had dinner and had the famous ribs…we were all blown away by the quantity and quality of meat. The staff were incredibly friendly! The room we stayed in was huge and comfortable. Definitely will be returning! A fabulous stay.

Room was cold a I was told the boiler was broken however I don’t believe that as water was hot. Had an electric radiator which took ages to heat the room then got too hot so switched off and woke up cold. Remote for tv was broken. Ordered a burger which was under cooked so not great. Breakfast good though.

Food was great but I wasn’t told they had no heating working on the day. They open at 5pm which is to late really

Dinner lovely - had the veggie burger Breakfast very challenging “Cooked to order” actually means ‘you get a full English whether you want one or not’ I was actually asked “did you know you wanted a veggie breakfast last night, if yes why didn’t you tell someone’ I asked for beans mushroom and toast and was told “I’ll take the bacon and sausage off and you can eat what’s left” Not good enough! And not suitable to chastise the guest for not wanting the forced upon us breakfast choice. No cereal, just a chosen for you full English and a rude chef. Disappointing end to what, till then had been a lovely stay on a lovely location. Sad to say, we won’t return

Group Christmas buffet. £14.95 a head (+ £100 room hire) for less than £5 of food. Nothing festive (no mince pies etc.) and extremely small amount of food for 35 people. Dessert was a small bowl of thumb nail size brownies and one small plate of fairy cakes with a cream topping -not enough for one each. Very disappointing.

Stayed one night after attending a funeral nearby. Had a good dinner and went to room early as was tired from very early morning start Room was chilly but just assumed heating had gone off for the night. Couldn’t wash hands properly as hot tap wasn’t working. Went to bed but found room really cold during the night and the duvet was not warm enough so sleep was not good. On rising at 7am the heating was still not working and did not work at all during our stay. There was a power shower that worked ok but the kettle lid wouldn’t open and the sink was cracked. Tried to contact owner/manager but phone went to message which wasn’t answered. Had booked breakfast time so went down a few minutes early and eventually someone opened the door. They apologised for lack of heating and offered a free cooked breakfast which was good. I was very disappointed with our experience. The hotel needs to keep up with their maintenance and ensure guests have an out of hours contact that works. Doubt we would stay again.

Took my 2 kids here for the weekend, and we lived it. The surroundings are beautiful and the kids loved exploring! Staff are very friendly, we only had some chips while watching the football as ate earlier and they were good. Kids had free continental breakfast in the morning and I had the cooked breakfast which was fantastic. I will be using this hotel a lot more often and the kids can't wait to go back, really highly recommend.

Stayed here for 3 nights while checking up on our new house build. Room was ok with plenty of space and very quiet. Dated carpets and fittings, the carpet definitely needs a good clean or replacement. Views not as they appear on website, have to stand on tiptoe to see through the roof mounted velux windows. Information lacking there is no literature or notices about local attractions or even how the hotel works. No maid service so self help to empty your own bins and replenish tea/coffee making items. Hot water not available until 8.00am so wouldn't be any use for people looking for work type temporary accommodation. Ate one evening in the pub food was OK bit pricey for pub grub and drinks were very overpriced. Last night we stayed went to bar at 7.40pm to get a drink and the girl said the owner had told her to close because not many customers. Not an ideal customer care approach. Room was cheap £75 per night but that was without breakfast. This place has lots of potential but needs a much more dynamic management strategy. Would I stay again? Probably but I would expect a more hands on proactive and welcoming attitude from the management. Interesting that there are very few reviews of the place.
